Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

same old problem you come up with a great show like trauma but as usual uve managed to screw it up by putting it on at the wrong time or on the wrong day.
Very sad to read it was canceled. Looked forward to the show every Monday night. Wish polls were taken with public before decision was made.
i thought the show was great…some of it far fetched…but all in all a great show. why do they always take shows like this off thr air?
My Mom and I are thoroughly disappointed!! NBC has let us down too many times!
Loved the show watched it every week my dad is a paramedic and i watch him do this stuff i cant wait to become 1 please bring it back…and why hate paramedics you NEVER know when YOU YOURSELF will need one so watch what you say
Very disappointed, loved this show.
Love TRAUMA… i hope they bring it back! : (
bring trauma back!! It’s was fantastic one of the best shows I ever saw!!
yes I totally agree action was the biggest medical drama since E.R. I don’t understand why ratings tank what more could u ask for explosive non stop action where all sudden things would go flat line and u knew sumthing was going to happen just had that feeling as far as the others go good for them but I guess ppl just can’t stomach the action and detail too much well why don’t u stick watching baseball boring I live in great north and we love it up here guess we are just more rugged up here lol SO YES… Read more »
as a voluteer in MDA . TEL AVIV its real , pleas bring it back
Love the show, so sorry It is not coming back….. Alot better then some shows that are on now. Bring it back Great Show……
I love the show! I love the action it brings. I am sorry to here it is canceled. The only reason I know is because I saw Anatasis Griffith on Royal Pains and looked to check on the status of Trauma. I was also sorry to here about the series The Forgotten! I watched ER from the begining and really liked Trauma. I hope you give it another chance!
I can’t believe its been cancelled while shows like Ghost Whisperer ,that make Charmed look like Othello ,in comparison is beyond belief! the key always is that one engages and “cares” about the central characters. That the series has interesting story lines about these people and about their lives “outside” the central arena that the show is set in. I love watching “no brain” escapism tv like lots of people but while reality tv shows keep being made with even more absurd premises shows like Trauma are pulled..! Well,it’s back to watching dvds then.
This is very sad news. this is one reason why i am considering not to get so hooked on tv shows. Someone always decides to pull the plug after you make these shows apart of our evenings. Love the actors – great chemistry.
Gutted. It’s a great show. The characters were great and I can’t believe it didn’t take off. They don’t publicise these shows enough. I only came across it by accident and loved every minute of every show- never wanted it to end! Feel very annoyed it is over!
I am from the UK and I think its a disgrace not to provide a season 2, as the end did not match the rest of the series and leaves it completely open.
This is one of the best shows on TV, I really hope the network have a rethink or the show is delivered by another network, as this was the missing link in the Medical drama schedules.
Bring it back please!
