Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

i wouldn’t doubt NBC considered the cost of making this series into the equation.
Some of the emergency scenes looked expensive to film and with the almight dollar
being what it is today–well, you know the rest!!!
I don’t know IF the ratings are still figured by who’s watching the commercials at regular
time–or–by those of us “HI-TECH” people that DVR it and by-pass the commercials
This was a great series. At least we can buy the DVD to remember it by!!!
Why is it that this networks don’t give good shows a chance? This is a great show!! Give it a chance! NBC keeps some shows that stink, but not the good ones! Wake Up NBC!!
I love this show and will be sooooo upset if they don’t bring it back.
Oh no!!! Trauma can’t be cancelled!!!! I loveddddddd this show. I watched it every time it aired. This show was the bomb dot com I tell you!!! It was totally awesome. I really really really don’t want this show to be cancelled. Maybe they just haven’t advertised the show enough on other media and stuff. My whole family would watch this show. I loved the action, the suspense, and all the other spectacular stuff that was in this show. NBC PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW. (I love Chuck also, so if NBC cancels that show, I’m going to be very… Read more »
I sooooo love Trauma..it is an awesome show. I love the medical field so when they show us different accidents it really tells people on what really happens out there in life. Its so true. I did my EMT classes its rough out there. I hope this show does not get canceled. Yes I agree it should get advertised more because alot of people still have never heard of it. Maybe if they did more advertising, people would be amazed on the show and wouldn’t have to cancel it. Good luck Trauma I hope you come back!!
Trauma needs to return. NBC does a crappy job of promoting some of their shows, and then they blame the show when the ratings go down. Did they ever think that it’s hard for people to get involved in a show that A, belongs to NBC so most likely has a very short lifespan in it’s future, and B, isn’t advertised or sold to the viewers they are trying to attract? NBC needs a major overhaul; not of their TV shows, but of the people who are so pathetically advertising these shows and then deciding to cut them after less… Read more »
Please keep this series on. DO NOT cancel I love this show.
Please NBC make a good decision and keep Trauma. With a little publicity it will have a long run, if you only give it a chance. It is totally unique, and the characters are amazing….I need to find out what happened between Nancy and Rabbit!
I hope Trauma comes back for another season. It is one of the few shows that I look forward to each week. It is an awsome show that needs to stay on TV.
They left with a cliff hanger! It must return so I can see what happens after Rabbit sees his g/f kiss another guy. This was by far my most favorite show in a very long time. I don’t know anyone that didn’t like it, so I find it hard to believe it had poor ratings.
Please please please bring Trauma back – it was so well acted and presented, all good actors but Cliff is the best! He’s a great actor and the world needs to see him more! He made Rabbit/Reuben so wonderful, so complex and tragic and funny all at the same time. I don’t usually like “ladies’ man” types but he changed my perspective. This was a great show as evidenced by all us fans; ratings may not have been great but that might be because it was on too late and not on a great night. Anyway, go Cliff!
yes i would love to see trauma come back and yes i if trauma got cancled i would like to see cliff pick up rabbit some how
Doggoneit!!! I just really got into Trauma and all its characters. Please, please, please bring it back!
Trama was advertised very little and I may have not noticed it if I had not seen the Care Flight copter in the previews. I am very fond of emergency copters since I was in one and was transported to a transplant hospital and receved a new heart in 1997.Was on life support when transported and have always wanted to go again when not knocked out with Marphene! Rabbitt is great ,but so are the other characters. They all have their stories.I love this series and hope that you don’t cancel it…….please. I would love to see Cliff Curtis as… Read more »
