In October, NBC decided not to order any additional episodes of the low-rated series, Trauma, essentially canceling the show after 13 episodes. Then, a few weeks later, NBC ordered three additional installments, likely because they anticipated holes in their spring schedule and the show’s producers were able to significantly cut production costs.
The show’s been off the air since November but the network has now announced that it’s coming back. Is there a chance that the show could actually see a second season?
Taking place in San Francisco, Trauma follows a group of first responders who risk their lives to save others. The cast includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The network recently announced that they were cancelling The Jay Leno Show as of February 12th. That means that, when NBC finishes airing its coverage of the Winter Olympics, the network will have five more hours of primetime to fill. That’s good news for Trauma.

NBC has announced that Trauma will be returning to Monday nights starting on March 8th. They’ve also just ordered three additional episodes, bringing the season total to 20. That means that there are 10 new episodes of Trauma to come.
If the new episodes of Trauma can attract significantly more viewers, the show might have a very good shot at being renewed — especially if the show can continue to be produced economically.
At the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, Angela Bromstad, NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President, didn’t rule out the show having a future and the new episode order is certainly promising.
However, NBC has plans to beef up their pilot development for next season. The network will develop 10 dramas and eight half-hour comedies. For Trauma to get a spot on the 2010-11 schedule, the low-rated series will have to inspire more confidence than the new shows.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a real chance at survival or is it still doomed?

I think Trauma is great!! Finally a series that shows people saving lives a series that follows paramedics much like emregency did in the late 70’s early 80’s. I would watch this show rather than see another csi, or law and order spin off i am tired of watching murders and trying to figure out who did them. Finally a show about saving lives this one was great!!
I am not convinced by this show. It’s a sad attempt to go against similar shows.
I would rather watch the Chinese news. NBC let’s aim for something worth while.
Haven’t we had enough of this kinda’ show? Minutes after the pilot, I was already numb to it and could care less about it. Give us back to back Law and Order!
Tv in general does NOT need another emergency/medical show. Yet for a struggling NBC to even try will just get them in another mess. Replace this show with a reality show or something!
Trauma is an excillent show. I’m a disabled Veteran and former EMT. Trauma is the best and most accurate rescue show I’ve ever watched. If NBC cancells it they will be making ANOTHER hugh mistake. And they seem to make a lot of them. No wonder CBS is the number one watch network on TV.
I really like this show. And it’s filmed in beautiful San Francisco…a welcome change.
I think it started off a little shaky, but after a couple episodes it really found it’s rhythm. If NBC is smart, they’ll renew.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and was upset to see that it was about to be canceled. This however doesn’t surprise me as CBS canceled one of Daytime’s longest running soaps known as Guiding Light w/o any consideration to the fans that have watched it for decades. Keep it up CBS. You will soon be know as (C)ancels(B)est(Shows).
Best show I have evr seen. I hope it is on forever.
This show DOES NOT have a real chance of survival at all!
It’s still doomed!
This is a waste of time slot. Cheesy plot and a disappointing cast acting.
Svu law n order should occupy this wasted slot instead.
This show is awesome. Every episode had some really cool element of surprise or drama that seriously got my attention as a writer. If it came on opposite something else I wanted to see, I recorded it to make sure I would not miss a single episode. The characters were getting more and more developed as the show went on, and I loved how they showed both ends of the emotional spectrum for each of them. For example, Rabbit was the hard-nosed, untouchable, can’t be killed, tough guy that took saving people so personally he became the namesake of a… Read more »

I love the show. I hope that it comes back. Great cast, great story lines!
