This evening marks the season finale of the Turn TV show on AMC. Will it also be the series finale as well? Will this drama get a chance to grow in season two or will it be cancelled after one short season?
Taking place during the American Revolutionary War, Turn follows a group of friends who become spies and help turn the tide of the war. The cast includes Amy Gumenick, Angus Macfadyen, Burn Gorman, Daniel Henshall, Heather Lind, JJ Feild, Jamie Bell, Kevin McNally, Meegan Warner, and Seth Numrich.
The show debuted on April 6th to 2.12 million viewers. In week two, the series dropped 12% to 1.87 million and week three dropped 25% to 1.40 million. Turn has been dropping nearly every week and has fallen to a low of just 1.08 million.
Will the show be cancelled? It’s difficult to predict what a cable channel like AMC will do because they have so few scripted series to compare. It’s certainly not positive that the ratings have dropped but they aren’t nearly as low as Low Winter Sun’s from last fall. Plus, last week’s debut of Halt and Catch Fire didn’t do much better with 1.19 million viewers.
AMC could go either way with this one but I suspect that it will be renewed for a second season. We’ll have to wait and see.
But, what do you think? Have you been watching? Should the Turn TV series be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Everyone that I know that has seen this show LOVES it, but the problem is that most people have never heard of it. And I have some friends that don’t even get AMC as part of their cable package. 10 episodes is not enough to get an accurate reading especially when it starts up at the same time that many series are ending. Probably get a lot more viewers if it had started in June/July time frame and run “off season”. TNT does that with several shows like Perception. So well written and acted it is far better than all… Read more »
I really hope AMC gives this show a chance. And maybe next season don’t put it opposite GoT???
The series has been phenomenal. The later segments get better and better. Thank God for this and The Vikings. TV lacks quality shows like Turn. Without the likes, it is only worth watching for the news and sports.
I really hope AMC renews the show. It feels in the last few episodes that it is really coming together. I agree that it started slow, but it keeps getting stronger. I am fascinated by this view of loyalists, which are usually ignored in most teaching of the Revolutionary War.
I hope this show is renewed. Please don’t cancel.
I love the show, but I hate the opening music. It’s completely unsuited for the show.
Please keep it coming! Love watching the show. Love history. First show I have watched regularly in years.
Everyone I know who has watched this series has loved it more and more as the series progressed. It brings the Revolutionary War to life. However, the time slot opposite the mindless “Games of Thrones” was really unfair and takes away the potential younger audience. Please renew the series and find a day and time that gives the series a chance to succeed with audiences. I can only imagine that the story will continue to deal with Benedict Arnold which would be fascinating. Thank the writers for making available such a wonderful series. Love the characterization.
I hope it comes back. Very compelling and full of historical nuance.
Please renew!!! As a history buff, I love seeing something educational and entertaining on tv for a chance. Give it another season to allow more people to get hooked onto it. I heard there may be a deal with Netflix for season 1 and that may get more people interested.
A breath of fresh air — unique and thought provoking. TV has not seen such an intelligent series in years. Historically accurate with great fiction intertwined. The only reason ratings are low is advertising; most of my coworkers have never heard of Turn, but after I ‘turned’ them onto it loved it! AMC please renew!!!
This show has grown on me. I wanted to like it since the Revolutionary War is rarely seen, and I now love it. Hope we get at least 1 more season.
Please renew Turn, AMC. The story lines, writing, staging are excellent. Any criticism about the plots being hard to follow comes from those who do not pay attention and are used to having story lines spoon fed to them. Stop texting; watch, listen and think.
I sincerely hope they renew TURN for a second season. This is a great show and I loon forward to it every week.
Love the fact that it is something of a historical nature. Especially the Rev. War. My children are currently studying this in American History. The only draw back is the sexual content that seems to be rather gratuitous. It was fairly apparent Abe was still at tracked to Anna Strong. Certainly not suitable for family viewing. Unforetunately I had to change the channel. Would love to see this program continue, but with the morals that people of that time period displayed. Stick to what it really is about.
