After four years on the air, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Ugly Betty. There won’t be a fifth season but will longtime fans get a true series finale?
Ugly Betty debuted in 2006 and follows young Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she navigates her way through the world of high-fashion, working at the trendy magazine Mode. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
After being a modest hit for its first two seasons, the series’ viewership dropped to an average of eight million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo last year. That would usually put a series “on the bubble” but ABC gave it an early renewal. It was pretty clear that the network wanted to try to keep it going to accumulate more episodes for the syndication package.

The network assigned the series to a Friday night timeslot this season, hoping that the loyal fans would follow it there. Not many did. After cancelling Eastwick, they moved Ugly Betty to a better slot, on Wednesday nights. The ratings haven’t been very good there either.
The show’s fate seemed essentially sealed by Ugly Betty’s syndication deal. While episodes of The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles sold for about $2.2 million each in syndication, Ugly Betty episodes have been licensed to the TV Guide Network for “a low six figures.”
Today, the network and production team made a joint statement, saying, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

honestly i’m really disappointed that theres not going to be a season5 the way that season four ended was unfinished. It left everyone’s story undone with out a season 5 the show is not complete. It needs an ending. The seasons were getting so good then it just stop. A season 5 would be really good or even a movie to complete the ending and finish everyone’s story and have a true ending.
I would really love to see a season 5 for this show, in all honesty this show really opened my eyes on how to view a lot of things. And how to believe in yourself. It’s very inspiring. Now a days many many people have netflix or any other online site that people watch on and that leaves a lot of show with less viewers. And the people who watch online don’t get counted as a viewer. 4 seasons is definitely NOT ENOUGH. I feel like i started something delicious and only after a couple of bites, the deliciousness was taken away. Need more Ugly Betty. The thing is…there are more fans out there then the powers that be aware of. Many of us watch Ugly Betty online and therefore none of our viewing is counted. I can’t believe honestly that the show was pulled because of lack of audience. I would venture to guess that someone with a lot of money and power wanted to shut Ugly Betty down.
Hi, I am a very great fan of ugly betty. But I’m very dissapointed cause there’s no proper farewell to the series. I think there should be a more better way for the farewell, maybe the farewell should show more on the romance of Betty and Daniel. I really hope that there’s a proper ending soon. Goodbyes aren’t always good, but I hope Ugly Betty will end with a proper goodbye for all the viewers to be satisfied with. Lastly, I really hope to see a proper farewell soon. 🙂
I really am disappointed, I had no idea, because I was like finally this sexual tension between Betty and Daniel is going to resolved and then bam, no Ugly Betty, I’m really disappointed

i can’t belive you cancled it, i really wanted to see betty and daniel get together. i think you should do at least one more seaon just to make everything come together… should think about these things before ending seasons like that.
Please let there be a 5th season please oh please oh PLEASE!!!!!! At least let there be a good ending instead of leaving us hanging.

I was watching the Ugly Betty series on netflix and was sooooooo very disappointed to hear that there was not a 5th season! it was just getting really interesting with Daniel and Betty…I ask that maybe instead of a season maybe a movie? that would depict the final story of what happens with Betty and Daniel? ( kind of like what sex in the city did) that would be so awesome!!!!!!
