Sadly, the Visitors aren’t among us any longer. After two short seasons, ABC has cancelled their V TV series.
A reimagining of the original V, this series tells the tale of what happens when an advanced alien race arrives of Earth professing their desire to help mankind. Fortunately, not everyone trusts them. The second season features the talents of Charles Mesure, Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Joel Gretsch, Laura Vandervoort, Logan Huffman, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, and Scott Wolf.
For season one, V ended up averaging a 2.25 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 5.7 million average viewers. It was “on the bubble” but ended up being renewed for a 13 episode second season. The network was hoping that the show would catch on and the ratings would improve.

ABC later reduced the episode order to just 10 installments and debuted them mid-season. Unfortunately, ABC’s gamble didn’t pay off. Season two of V ended up averaging only a 1.9 in the demo and 5.49 million viewers.
Though the network and producers maintained that the show was still in contention for next season, it was clear that there would only be a third season of V if ABC was willing to gamble once again. In the end, they weren’t.
ABC confirmed today that V has been cancelled after two seasons and 22 episodes. The series finale aired on March 15th and, unfortunately, there were lots of unresolved cliffhangers. Hopefully the producers will someday share what they had in mind for season three.
What do you think? Are you sad that V won’t be returning next season? Why do you think the series didn’t catch on?

It had been years since I watched a TV series, with all their “real life” drama. I didn’t want to view true TV…I live it every single day. I wanted to “escape” into fantasy for a few hours. “V” did that for me and countless others, and they did it exceptionally well!! What a mistake to cancel. When these shows are rated, does anyone take into account those of us who tape shows to avoid comercials? Damn, I am SO disappointed!
I think the best way for networks to go now, is the Mini-Series route. 4 or 6 hours should be enough time to tell a good story. The number of cancellations each season, only makes the viewing audience mad. If I were a producer, I would contract with the network to not cancel my product, but show it in full. The movie industry knows this. The TV networks should follow suit. Time being very limited these days, only extremely lucky series have a chance of running 26 episodes. Novels from which movies are made, can be read in 4 to… Read more »
I agree, Bo,
If we could have a guarantee that a series would have a beginning, middle AND end, as the mini-series do, I would be willing to watch. But I no longer wish to invest my time in a television drama series under the current system when I have been frustrated by having so many of my favorites cancelled.
I’m very disapointed with this. I was really hoping to see the series continue, It was well put together and gripping. I hope another studio picks this up as its still got potential and in my opinion is worth the investment. I bought the first series on DVD… its just finished airing the 2nd on syfy in the UK and then I hear this news… !! grrr!!
Its the same thing they did with that flash forward…. I’ll be FLASHING FORWARD past ABC in future….
thank you very much 😉
very disappointed there won’t be a season 3. 🙁 might have gotten more viewers by not waiting sooooooooooo long to run season 2!
After the season 2 finale, I’m guessing that Anna and the Visitors won?? It was an awful way to the end series and I’m not happy with ABC’s decision to cancel the show. I agree that the networks need a better way to guage the ratings of TV shows. Nielsen is outdated and out of touch with today’s world.
I am sick and tired of getting into a new series, only to find that they get canceled after a couple of seasons. For one Stargate Universe, and now V. It seems that all TV channel bosses care about is the $ signs, and not those of us who have given up hours of our lives each week. What is the point, why should we commit ourselves to a new show, as we all know that it will not last past the second season? I for one will not be watching any more new shows, it is much easier to… Read more »
This is bad real bad news I’m not happy with ABC at all. What’s is wrong with these people
why do they leave u hanging? i hate when they do that.the network leaves other stupid shows on tv and take off the good ones.we need a ending to v.i hope another network picks it up so we can get some answers.mad about the cancellation
Absolutely! That’s exactly what I said! They left us hanging back in the 80s when that V series was cancelled; now, they’ve done it again! I think they owe it to the viewers who did like the show to at least make a final TV movie or mini-series to wrap everything up, one way or the other.
Even SEINFELD took a couple of seasons before THAT took off. V never really had a chance! I’ll miss it.
please film more! Its great. Ill will miss watching it on a Thursday night.
Very sad and unprofessional. Many people did DVR and many people watched the downloads from internet due to the lack of ABC to post the episodes online. This is horrible news..
[…] V, No Ordinary Family, **** My Dad Says canceled […]
Very sad… 🙁
I agree, it might have caught on if in good time and date schedule but I hope SyFy picks them up
Sci-Fy (or Sc-Fi).. however they are spelling it these days is owned by NBC/ Comcast. They are just as bad, if not worse. Today’s Television Stations need to really update their business model. When you consider people are “Watching” more Netflix, Hulu, and a bazillion other things online. You can not expect to have the same ratings structure you once had. Nielsen is outdated and needs to be rethought. Advertising dollars are what drive a show. If NBC, ABC, CBS, and the lot can sell space for “x” amount of money, then the show stays. To keep that “x”, they… Read more »
