One of the producers of the new V thinks there’s still a chance that TV show will be renewed for season three. On the show’s official Facebook page, Steve Pearlman wrote: “Despite what you read online, the ratings for V have been OK and the show has a chance of being renewed for a third season.” Is that really true?
For season one, V ended up averaging a 2.25 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 5.7 million average viewers. It was “on the bubble” but ended up being renewed for season two. ABC has a history of taking a chance on struggling freshman shows and decided to bet on this one over lower-rated FlashForward. Sometimes the network’s gambling pays off (Castle) but usually, it doesn’t (Samantha Who?, Better Off Ted, October Road, etc.).
After ABC ordered 13 episodes for season two, the network cut it back to 10 installments. That’s not a good sign but ABC execs supposedly felt they just wouldn’t need as many episodes because of the bevy of original programming they already have. Lots of this season’s new and returning shows haven’t even premiered yet because there’s no room on the schedule.
So far this season, V has been pretty consistent and has averaged a 2.0 in the demo and 6.02 million viewers. While that’s an increase in total viewers, that’s a drop in the key demo which is what really counts. V is currently the second-lowest rated scripted show on the network, just above Detroit 1-8-7 and just below No Ordinary Family.
So, Pearlman is indeed correct that a third season is still possible but, unless the ratings improve, it seems unlikely. ABC gave the series a chance last time and the risk hasn’t paid off for them so far. The ratings have dropped, not improved. If they’re going to take a gamble on a struggling show for next season it would make more sense to try another one.
What do you think? Will the V ratings improve? Will ABC give the series another chance — season three — or will it be cancelled?

It is a terrible thing to allow viewers to get into a show and then just leave us hanging! Of course, that is why they killed so many characters off. The actors got other jobs because they were also left hanging. It was my favorite show!
V was a fantastic series.
I agree with Rick, if ABC doesn’t want to continue the series it would be great if someone else would, maybe SyFy since it fits their genre and may get better ratings there. I wonder if the ratings aren’t higher on ABC because people who like SciFi may not be looking for it on ABC.
I’d love to see a third season.
great show. they should hype it up more. don’t cancel.fantastic cast.
great show . don’t cancel. put it on scy fy.
V should continue!!!
I hope V is renewed. Great show. Maybe USA or SYFI channel or TNT could take the show and continue. What do fans think of this possibility?
Rick
This was a very enjoyable season and the finale for this season was great! Very interesting that so many “loose ends” were so well introduced. There really needs to be another season to develop all of this further. The Producer and writers came up with some interesting “twists” during the season and we never lost interest in an episode. It would be a big mistake to discontinue this series. Continue to build upon your success. Ideally, there will be a 1 or 2 hour “season primer” …perhaps in November…and begin the season early in January and run the season well… Read more »
Best Season finale ever. It should absolutely been renewed for Season Three
V is a great show! It’s interesting n suspenseful Good writing n good characters. We don’t like that many shows these days but my whole family (n friends) – all ages- r captivated n can’t wait to find out what happens next. Season two left us w too many loose ends n we can’t wait to find out how it’s all resolved n earth reigns in the end! Puleese bring it back. We want much more!!!
I don’t think V will get renewed but I do think they might make some direct-to-DVD movie to wrap up the storyline. V: Final Battle or something, where Anna gets killed by the evil Lisa, and the evil Lisa get killed by the good Lisa, and the good Lisa becomes the new V Queen.
A high quality sci-fi show!
If the plot pace were a bit less frenetic the characters could be made more appealing, viz “Lost.” The plot twists are excellent.
I hope they are renewed for a 13 episode season.
Why do we have to suffer with trash like “American Idol”, “Dancing with the Stars”, “Hell’s Kitchen” and all those reality shows. I can’t see how anyone can bear to watch that. Meanwhile great shows like “V” are cancelled. The mainstream networks are going downhill, and rightfully so. Thank God for the internet and streaming video.
ABC has cancelled a lot of good shows. I started watching some of them and just ended up hanging, like so many people… I decided to start watching V’s but if they cancel the show like the rest before i don’t know if I’ll ever start watching an ABC show again. What’s the point??? They’ll probably cancel it anyway… It does sound pretty juvenile to start filming some tv shows, get 6 million people to watch it, and then just leave it unfinished (and not just once). I understand that popularity and money is important but since there are thousands… Read more »
I love this show!! I hope it’s renewed for Season 3! There were too many questions left hanging. I never expected Tyler to die or Ryan!! What twists the Season 2 finale had.
I hope it won’t be canceled.
If they do decide to cancel, at least wrap up questions (a lot of unanswered) and do it justice by doing a Season 3.
I thought the finale was great. Leaves a lot left to clear up.
Please don’t end it on the finale of Season 2!!
This network doesn’t seem to care if a show is really good, entertaining or well made, all they care about is the ratings and making money! The audience really doesn’t matter to this network since Disney took over, it’s all about money, not quality or entertainment anymore!
