The aliens came and, despite some ratings challenges, they are staying — for at least one more season. ABC has renewed the V TV show for a second season.
Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they’ve come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
The series got off to a strong start in November with a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.3 million total viewers. At the time, it was the highest rated debut of the 2009-10 season. Unfortunately, a large percentage of those viewers didn’t return for the second week. Episode two brought in a 3.8 rating and 10.7 million.
Week three dropped yet again, to a 3.1 in the demo and 9.26 million viewers. Thankfully, the ratings decline evened off from there. Unfortunately, due to some backstage issues, ABC put the show on hiatus for several months.

When V returned, the show’s ratings were understandably lower than they had been. Still, the drop could have been far worse than it was — attracting a 2.8 in the demo and 7.03 million viewers. The numbers later slipped to a low of a 1.9 rating and 4.87 million.
But now, in the final weeks of the season, V is starting to show a little growth. Last week’s brought a 2.1 and 5.37 million. This week attracted a 2.3 and 5.69 million. These increases seem to mirror the growth in its lead-in’s viewership (Lost) but they are increases nonetheless.
While it would seem that ABC should realistically cancel V, the network has a tradition of showing some faith in one or two struggling programs each year. It would seem that V is one of those shows. According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, ABC has renewed V for a second season of 13 episodes.
Will this gamble pay off? ABC has had mixed results in the past. Samantha Who? didn’t work out while Castle has grown nicely. With an ongoing sci-fi storyline, V isn’t exactly the type of show that’s inviting to new viewers. Perhaps the network has a plan. Time will tell.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that V has been renewed for season two? Are you surprised? What would you do to boost viewership?

I can’t wait to watch the next episode!!! I know all original V viewers have been waiting for a long time for this new V series. ABC shouldn’t cancel it but make it more interesting and longer! They could possibly add some storyline of how the aliens actually live (show us their way of educating and bringing up their children which would be very different from our ways of raising children, what they do for hobbies, etc).
i really want this show to come back on i love it
I am with so many here. V needs to be given a chance. With SyFy’s decision to cancel Caprica with only five episodes remaining, V is about the only appealing show for me and my wife out there. As old schoolers, we desire intelligent programming instead of the less intellectual reality shows, which really isn’t about real life at all. So, give V its chance to shine and allow the fans to revel in something that truly appeals to us and quit feeding us what tastes like ashes in our mouths.
I Love V cant wait for it to come back on!!! Especially seeing the way it ended last season. Wondering how successful the second season would be. I’m definitely on board!!!
TV shows might do a little better if they realize that a large majority of the viewing audience works second shift. I don’t understand why ABC, NBC, and CBS don’t place a secondary offset station (by 14 hours) for those second shift workers. It’s not rocket science, and with the DTV 3.1 and 3.2 it’s not loike they don’t have the channel to do it on.
I love V!!!! Beats the hell out of all the mindless reallity shows like Stars,Idol,Ect….
Oh yeah……NORTH & SOUTH was great too back in its day.I’d love to see a remake
done of that too!!!!
Absolutely loved the show. Too much time lapsed during season one and now waiting for season two. When you have a show as dynamic as V you need to not let time interupt the season. You start to forget the facts and lose interest. Now waiting for season two has been painful. If you want viewers to stay tuned keep us tuned in !!!
Favotit show – love it! Anna is a queen alien babe!
I want it to be back on !!!!!
I want it to be back on can’t wait !!!!!!
My BF and I can’t wait for it to come back!!!!
WE LUV THE SHOW, WHEN DOES IT START AGAIN.
@TEDY ELBERT: January.
My husband and I are waiting patiently for the “V” series to start up again. We watched the original and also followed this series. We have be watching the papers and such looking for a new start up date. I’m happy for the 13 more episodes. When are they starting up?
Love the show! My wife and I can’t wait for the next season to start. Cmon ABC get behind it!
I really love the show, but I wish they would have allowed the Aliens to have the animated voice when they did not have on their human voice module. This would make them feel more like aliens as they did in the origional. I am really hoping that this year they will have continued episodes with out interruptions. Nothing kills a show like showing reruns for weeks at a time.
