The aliens came and, despite some ratings challenges, they are staying — for at least one more season. ABC has renewed the V TV show for a second season.
Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they’ve come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
The series got off to a strong start in November with a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.3 million total viewers. At the time, it was the highest rated debut of the 2009-10 season. Unfortunately, a large percentage of those viewers didn’t return for the second week. Episode two brought in a 3.8 rating and 10.7 million.
Week three dropped yet again, to a 3.1 in the demo and 9.26 million viewers. Thankfully, the ratings decline evened off from there. Unfortunately, due to some backstage issues, ABC put the show on hiatus for several months.

When V returned, the show’s ratings were understandably lower than they had been. Still, the drop could have been far worse than it was — attracting a 2.8 in the demo and 7.03 million viewers. The numbers later slipped to a low of a 1.9 rating and 4.87 million.
But now, in the final weeks of the season, V is starting to show a little growth. Last week’s brought a 2.1 and 5.37 million. This week attracted a 2.3 and 5.69 million. These increases seem to mirror the growth in its lead-in’s viewership (Lost) but they are increases nonetheless.
While it would seem that ABC should realistically cancel V, the network has a tradition of showing some faith in one or two struggling programs each year. It would seem that V is one of those shows. According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, ABC has renewed V for a second season of 13 episodes.
Will this gamble pay off? ABC has had mixed results in the past. Samantha Who? didn’t work out while Castle has grown nicely. With an ongoing sci-fi storyline, V isn’t exactly the type of show that’s inviting to new viewers. Perhaps the network has a plan. Time will tell.

I love this show. Never heard of it before. I was a teenager in the 80s and never seen the original. I absolutelly love this show. its great. cant wait to start watching season 2. i am not a “sci-fi” watcher. infact i usually only watch sports on tv. I must say i think the decline in views is because of hulu and other websites offering the show. thats how i watch it. I would pull those #s and i bet there are tons of views.
I think V-TV Series is an interesting sci-fi TV Series and the story is original and realistic. I think it would be more interesting it is more action, more new technology shown besides their advance medical and blue enegy, there should be more to show. Also the real face of the V (Visitors) must be revealed so viewers can be more interested, in season 1 we only see lizard’s eyes & claws and a little skin “sample”, that is not enough, the baby lizard alson only see it’s tail. and be carefull ABC with all this dropped and cancelled great series…at one time this will turn against u… i wuil never forget great show Defying Gravity, cancelled 🙁
great show V and if will be cancelled…after Defying Gravity…will the most stupid thing for ABC…i don’t know why they start a series and stop it after 1 season with all great rating.Anyway, wait wait wait for 2 season with tizzy, I can’t wait…
V is a great show and I can’t wait for season 2. One of the best shows on tv lately. If you don’t like it don’t watch it,as for me I think it’s great!!!!
Are you kidding? This is one of the best shows (in the genre) made in years. Excellent cast, good script… a very exciting storyline. It got me addicted. I want more of the “bliss”.
They should continue producing V TV series, I enjoyed the series when I was a kid, and now, me and even my wife who doesn’t into any TV Series enjoyed the V series so much, and we await eagerly for the second season, or perhaps the third one *finger crossed*

i like original and i like new, give the new a chance to get more into the story that when all the action start remember sometimes slow and steady whens the race
I loved the show. I hope they really continue the show. I was just watching the old tv series with my mother the other day. LOVE IT!!!! I really hope they continue the show because I would watch all the way. I miss it already. They can’t cancel something that isn’t finished yet. I want to find out what happens. And yeah, I hate when shows cancel, shows that are really good. At least end it decently if you are going to end it.
Thank God they’re doing another! ABC has really been ticking me off lately. Everytime I’ve gotten REALLY into one of their shows, they cancel it. I was going to phisically die if they did it again.
I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE ACTION. THE ORIGINAL SHOW HAD MORE ACTION AND IT WAS BETTER BECAUSE OF IT. BUT IT WAS TO BUDGET. THIS ONE SEEMS TO HAVE THE MONEY BUT ITS A SYFY SHOW. IT NEEDS MORE ACTION IN MY OPINION.
I am So glad they are bring V back . They canled my other show Flashfoward. These were my two shows of the week i would look foward to watching. I love Morris Chestnut watching him every week made my week. If it does’nt make it to a third season. Please Keep Morris on TV every week mabye he could join Taye Digg on The Practice? Then my two men together in one show ..

As a fan of the original “V,” I really wasn’t expecting much from the remake. Along with Battlestar Galactica and it’s prequel, Caprica, this has turned out to be one the best sci-fi/drama/action shows I’ve seen in the last several years. I’m not an easily amused sci-fi, nerd; I never liked the “Stargate” series, I really couldn’t get into “Enterprise,” I’m not one to run to just anything labelled “sci-fi.” But this reboot has kept me on the edge of my seat since day one, I really hope they keep it alive for a while. I reeeally loved the show. I watched the old show as a kid and was so excited to see it back. I wish the show was on twice a week! Please keep the V on for a few more seasons and I bet you’ll get more addicts hooked like me….great luck and please work hard to market! T-shirts yet? Thanks!
