Going into the fall season, CBS’ Vegas series was one of the new TV shows with the most buzz. Many people were expecting it to be one of the hits of the season. Has it measured up? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Airing on Tuesday nights, Vegas takes place in the Las Vegas of the 1960s and revolves around Sheriff Ralph Lamb (Dennis Quaid), a former rancher, and his clashes with Vincent Savino (Michael Chiklis), a Chicago mobster who moved west to set up his operation. Others in the cast include Carrie-Anne Moss, Taylor Handley, Sarah Jones, and Jason O’Mara.
The show debuted back on September 25th to a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 14.85 million total viewers. While the viewership was strong, CBS was likely expecting a much better demo number — especially considering the show’s high-profile talent, positive reviews, and the show having a strong lead-in like NCIS: Los Angeles.
In week two, the ratings dropped 20%, to a 2.0 rating with 12.11 million. In week four, they dropped another 20%, to a 1.6 rating with 10.8 million.
The numbers have remained fairly steady since then and the 15 episodes that have aired thus far have averaged a 1.7 demo rating with 10.9 million viewers.
While that demo might be enough for a show on NBC, it’s not likely good enough for CBS. Right now, Vegas is one of the network’s lowest-rated weekday series in the demographic which advertisers favor. Vegas has a lot of total viewers but so do many other CBS shows.
Last season, Unforgettable occupied the same timeslot and performed better than Vegas — averaging a 2.3 demo rating and 11.3 million viewers. It was cancelled.
The network ended up making a deal with Sony TV to bring Unforgettable back for a short season this summer and both sides likely made some financial concessions to make that happen. Word is that most of the supporting castmembers have been dropped. A deal like that is not likely to happen with Vegas.
Unless the ratings start to climb, it doesn’t look very likely that Vegas will be back for a second season.
On the positive side, the series will be back on March 19th and there are seven new episodes yet to come.
What do you think? Do you think CBS should cancel Vegas to make way for a new show? Or, should they renew Quaid and company for a second season? If you were running the network, would you change anything try to attract higher ratings?
Please do not cancel Vegas. It is a great show.
Love the cast. More shows like this are needed.
Not more reality stuff.
I just found out Vegas was cancelled and I am shocked. This show was one of the few shows I watched. Get rid of the reality shows and bring back entertaining shows like Vegas!!!!! The cast was great.
My husband and I truly enjoyed this “Vegas” show. We were looking forward to seeing it again this fall. Has it been cancelled?? I’ve looked but can’t seem to find it anywhere……….:(
WHY CANCEL A SHOW THAT WE ALL LOVE, HOW ABOUT TAKING OFF TWO AND HALF STUPID STUFF, CBS GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, DAH/;;/////////
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL!!! My husband and I LOVE this show! We even let our kids stay up to watch it since it’s on a little later than we would like. But all 3 of our teenagers, boys 16 & 19, and a girl 17, LOVE it as well. We have all talked all summer about what we think may happen in the new season. It’s a nice change of pace compared to some of the crazy things that are on these days. So sick of seeing “who’s the rat”, or “I’m gonna fall in love with someone on tv… Read more »
I would like the show ” Vegas ” to return to the fall lineup. It was a change to the “Reality ” shows on the television. I like some of the reality shows, but shows like Storage War, and Packing Wars, have allot of fake rewards, to keep people watching. I realize that Vegas is not the real life of Los Vegas in the 60’s but then again N.C.I.S. is not real either.
Do not cancel this show..it’s soooo good!! My husband and I enjoy watching Vegas. Too good not to keep but we will keep these other dumb reality shows!!
Great show!! It shouldn’t be CANCELLED!!!!! How about you get rid of some of the reality shows and keep shows like this that actually have a plot and Great actors!!
Great show!! It needs to stay and get rid of some of these reality shows!!
Damn good show Keep it going Great interaction between main characters with loads of potential plot lines
Please do not cancel this show. We love it an me an my boyfriend have watch every episode an even taped the last one so we could pick up where we left off when the new ones come out. I really hope that u will change your mind an it stays on the air.
The show should NOT be dropped until the storyisended. You don’t leave a lot of people wondering about the ending. It is no wonder that many of us are going over to cable (TNT, FX, ect) and leaving the big three.
Please bring back Vegas!!!!! It is a wonderful show with interesting characters and along with “Suits”, they are my two favorite TV shows.

NO, this show should not be CANCELLED!!!! It’s GREAT!! I have been looking forward for the new season starting. It is a big mistake to cancel this show…..they keep shows with every hillbilly from catching fish with their bare hands to junk owners. They have ruined TV with all these stupid reality shows and taking off good shows.
