At the Television Critics Association press tour, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt addressed the cancellation of Welcome to Sweden.
He said, “It was a little show. We love Greg Poehler and Amy [Poehler], but it was just a little show we didn’t think had enough of an audience.”
NBC cancelled the show midway through its second season, after airing just four of the 10 installments to terrible ratings. They averaged just a 0.27 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.20 million viewers.
The network has since released the six unaired episodes online and can be seen on Hulu.
What do you think? Do you like the Welcome to Sweden Tv show? Do you think it should have been cancelled?
It was a cute little show — sorry it’s gone. I guess there weren’t enough explosions and blood and guts for the American audience.
We loved the show. It was delightful and fun and quirky and truly a breath of fresh Swedish air. I’m so very sorry it was deemed too little, too weird or too uninteresting. We need more laughter on TV and I’m so sad to see it go. We all are here.
I agree w/Ellen…. It WAS dreadful!
Such a disappointment to see this show cancelled — funny, quirky, engaging characters, well acted, and so original!! Hopefully it will popup elsewhere.
My dad and I both love it (57 and 28 respectively)! With a Sunday night airtime and subtitles my guess is Americans were just too lazy to watch it. It’s a clever show though with subtle humor. As our heritage is Swedish it was an added bonus to watch the culture and feel its familiarity in our relatives (we live in the upper Midwest which is filled with Scandanavians). I hope it keeps a cult following and can go the way of Arrested Development and other clever cancelled shows.
I’m really disappointed that this show was cancelled! I thought it was very entertaining…and different. If I see another CSI..(name a city) I don’t know what I’ll do!
I wish the network would have given it more of a chance, and had given it a little more hype….I just happened upon it, but was hooked immediately.
It was so great seeing Lena Olin again. I remember her so well from “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”.
Thank you.
I thought it was excellent. One of the funniest shows on US TV.
I feel just the opposite, I loved the show. But whenever 66 year old white guys like something, it just seems to go away. I was hoping that they would show the rest on Saturdays, but Hulu….. I don’t want to purchase that just for 6 episodes of Sweden.
I couldn’t believe it when I heard it had been renewed last year. I tried to watch the first season, but it was dreadful. Apparently, more viewers agreed with me than with the network that renewed it.
