Wicked City was cancelled by ABC after just three episodes on the air. The network latest released the entire season to Hulu, but the series will not return for a second season.
Paul Lee spoke about the cancelled series at the Winter TCA’s during ABC’s panel over the weekend, and he does not regret bringing the series to the network.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, he said:
“It didn’t find an audience, and we didn’t have any belief that it would in the long term. But I like taking the big swings. If they don’t work, they don’t work. But you are in a much worse place in these jobs if you are not taking swings and you are trying to eke out some B-pluses. This was a big swing. It didn’t work, but I was proud to have done it.”
Did you watch Wicked City? Do you think ABC should have given it more of shot to find its audience? Tell us what you think.
Wicked City was an awesome period piece tbe same as Aquarius. Unfortunately it was brought to television by a network owned by Disney, and we all know what that means…family oriented programming only. I’m surprised that they’ve let Nashville stay on the air. Anyway, Wicked City was an awesome, adult oriented (up past 9:00 pm) show. How do we go about trying to get another network to buy the rights to the show? Any network execs reading these threads?
Why is it every show I enjoy, they end up cancelling? They didn’t even give it enough time to get accurate ratings. It’s bs.
I loved it!I admit the first few episodes were slow to engage, but starting with the fourth I had to watch the rest in one sitting! And, the ending left you wanting more. It was fabulous! Very different story line, excellent casting and better than many other shows out there. Please renew this show!
Clearly, this is a network exec A-hole who harbors the same D-head sentiment that is fostered by so many netwoerk honchos in these days and times. To start a series and abruptly end it after only three installments is SO insensitive to your viewers. It demonstrates the very reason why these jerks are buying so many mindless sitcom type series that inevitably flop in 86% of the showings. The lack of respect for drama and action viewers is at an all-time low (or high if one is speaking of volume of disrespect). It is cruelly ridiculous to punish the viewers… Read more »
Another bad decision by ABC – just like Blood and Oil. i sure hope someone else picks this up. It was fascinating and the 8th episode sure left room for another season – relocation to Chicago and a glance at a potential victim was the last scene. I loved it.
I couldn’t agree more about this show and Blood and Oil. Another terrific show that gets cancelled while others continue. I only hope another station will pick up both of these.
Yeah, OK. Don’t hold your breath. Oh God was HL Mencken a visionary genius or what? Note to Cheryl: if you can manage Google, you might want to look up Mencken. And you might take a giant step and check out premium cable. Really.
