Despite a 30% drop in the ratings, CBS chose to renew its Zoo TV show for a third season, rather than cancel it. Can the network turn things around and regain some audience, or will this summer TV series go the way of the Dodo? Will Zoo be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.
A CBS drama thriller based on the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge novel, Zoo, stars James Wolk as zoologist Jackson Oz. The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin, and Gracie Dzienny. After noticing animals behaving strangely during the African safaris he conducts, Oz and his team work to figure out the reason behind it. Meanwhile, the animals assaults become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious.
Season three of Zoo opens in the year 2027. Thanks to the sterility issue, the human population is still diminishing. Meanwhile, hybrids pose a new threat. This relentless force of lab-created creatures is determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth. Although the team members have grown alienated from each other over the last ten years, Jackson, Jamie (Connolly), Abraham (Anozie), Dariela (Diaz), and Logan (Salatin) have to get past their differences and reunite when they learn that Mitch (Burke) is alive. They must stop the hybrids and their enigmatic creator – someone with a connection to their past.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Zoo averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.453 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Zoo TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season on CBS?
10/23/17 update: CBS has cancelled the Zoo TV show after three seasons. Details here.
I first found this show on Netflix and was so sad when I finished the first 2 seasons because I thought they had cancelled the show after that, but when I found out they were making a season 3 I was extremely happy. I love this show. It has to stay on the air!
I think this show is really good and doing very well despite not a lot of media output. I found it on Netflix and now dvr the series. I believe the rating platform is not an accurate tool these days (if this is what networks really use) to cancel a television series. There are many of us out of the demographic and still spend money. It can be considered family friendly for older school age children.
please renewed third season it great record every week this summer best shows on tv right besides suits on USA.
like many others, I stopped watching this show when they killed Chloe, and brought instead the worst possible “actress” to replace her, with the worst possible character. by the looks of it. it will not make it to season 4.
Please renew. That’s all that needs to be said!
It seems most shows this season premiered way later than usual, Zoo included. I couldn’t wait for the season opener and I was not disappointed!! I absolutely love this series, and hope that CBS continues to make more episodes for future seasons, until the end of the book! It would be so unfair for the network to pull it ( as they so often do) and leave us hanging! And I must say, I’m so tired of reading the obsolete Nielsen Ratings regarding age group! 18-49 is NOT THE ONLY AGE GROUP THAT WATCHES THIS SHOW AND MANY OTHERS! Teens… Read more »

Love this show. There is always a twist or some kind of surprise. YES……please…..Season 4 & 5 and 6 and ………on and on.
I am really enjoying season three. CBS should factor in the viewers that live steam from other devices. I am counting on them to continue with season four. It gives me something to look forward to each summer. Please Renew…
This show is awesome. I think it should go on another season for sure. Every season unfolds with answers and more questions. These whiny people that can’t follow should probably stick to cartoons.
I thought last week 3 million . 08 views disappeared I am confused so need renewed for another season many more seasons to come it the best on top suits and shooter really good shows.
The first season was awesome I couldn’t wait for the next episode, the 1 season finale left me wanting season 2 ,then season 2 comes on and they added too much stuff ,I was no longer waiting for each weeks episode I just caught on to all of them on demand….the 3 season I didn’t even know when it was gonna comeback out and after 2 episodes I’m disappointed and I don’t think they were get a season 4 this season is all over the place also ….they should of tried writing a
Continue of season 1 …ughhh I’m mad
Is the end near for this show? The ratings are awful, but CBS might have delusions of syndication, although I don’t know how.
How old are you?
I liked this show, but they moved it around so much I lost track of it! I will look for it on Thursday night.
