Castle: ABC Series Gets Full Season Order; Out of Cancellation Danger?

Castle TV showABC gave sophomore series Castle an order for nine additional episodes yesterday, bringing the season order to 22 installments. With decent ratings, can fans of the show relax? Is it safe from cancellation?

Castle revolves around an egotistical novelist (Nathan Fillion) who teams up with a police detective (Stana Katic) to solve crimes in the Big Apple. The drama also features Susan Sullivan, Molly Quinn, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Tamala Jones, Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever.

Last season, Castle averaged 10.32 million viewers and a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This season, Castle has been averaging a bit more than 10 million viewers and is down to a 2.5 rating. The numbers have bumped up a bit in the past couple of weeks and it’s been suggested that that news was encouraging enough for ABC to give it a full season order.

Still, the news isn’t all positive. Aside from the large year-to-year dip in the all-important demo, Castle consistently loses a significant amount of viewers from its lead-in, Dancing with the Stars. This week’s installment lost almost 45%. ABC is surely not pleased with these losses.

On top of that, Castle is expected to have its biggest challenge in the next several weeks. Throughout its first season and thus far into its second, Castle has always been blessed with the hugely popular Dancing to help attract viewers. That’s going to change in November. When Dancing goes on hiatus, Castle’s not going to have that big lead-in any longer and will have to stand on its own.

If you remember back to the 2008-09 season, Samantha Who? always did quite well with a Dancing lead-in. When it was left to fend for itself last season, the ratings fell apart and it was cancelled.

Dancing with the Stars is set to end its season in November. Will Castle be able to survive or will ABC decide it can do better? What do you think?

Castle is my favorite show. I think the main reason you lose viewers in the fall is Monday Night
Football. This show has great chemistry between the characters and I believe it is just too good to be cancelled.

The TV show Castle has completely changed my life, believe it or not! It is the only series on television that I make a point to watch. I had even went and bought the seasons. The show is very inspiring and it deserves 100% to stay on. Canceling that show would be awful! It is the first ever “cop show” of its kind that can actually hold most peoples interest! Greatest show on television as far as I am concerned. It should not be canceled.

Mystery is my favorite genre and Castle is one of the most entertaining on TV. The fact that Castle is very into the police action and also into taking care of his daughter is a wonderful combination of emotions. His humorous way of looking at homicide scenes takes away from what is normally a very somber event. Keeps the storyline fresh. I love the fact that his shield has “Writer” on it instead of “Police”. That’s hysterical. PLEASE KEEP IT ON THE AIR. But please do not put any love story into it. The relationship between Castle and Kate is fine the way it is.
Thank you.

Well, I think abc should move castle from the 10:oo slot to 9:00 for now, until DWTS comes back then either put it back to 10:00 or move it to another night….
We love this show, its funn, witty and there’s definitely some chemistry between Castle and Beckett.

I think Castle will do better if it’s not after Dancing with the Stars. Ten is pretty late to stay up for a show you can just record and watch later (without commercials, to boot).

Castle is the first TV show in years that I have made it a point to watch. Each year I watch the new shows with hope of returning to the good shows. To cancel it is to continue or boost the drivel that is on TV now. Castle is the first that made the grade. Keep a show like Castle which has so much going in the story, the cast , the writing . It truly is entertainment.

YOU DID IT TO US WITH THE WOMENS MURDER CLUB AND NOW YOUR SUGGESTING DOING IT AGAIN WITH CASTLE!

YOU MUST HAVE ANOTHER AGENDA, YOU ARE POLLING WRONG MARKETS, WHAT, ANOTHER REALITY SHOW?

THE WRITERS AND ACTORS ARE WHAT MAKE THIS SHOW UNIQUE.
THIS SHOW IS WHAT OUR FAMILY LOOKS FORWARD TO AND ITS GOOD TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT OUR FAMILY GETS EXCITED ABOUT IN THESE TROUBLED TIMES.

LET US KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO TO KEEP CASTLE ON THE AIR.

SINCERELY,

RON, DONNA, AND MARC FREITAS

There were better ratings last year because it was on earlier. Move it back to 9pm!!! This season we tape it on Monday and watch it the next day. I wonder if they still count me in…

The best show on TV other than The Mentalist. Dancing With the Stars was a terminal bore this season. Third- or fourth-tier celebrities, that insufferable trio of has-beens as judges, and Donny Osmond the winner? Be serious. Castle made it all worthwhile. Without Castle at 10:00, we’d never have bothered with DWTS. Castle is a smart, witty, stylish show for grownups. We will be very disappointed if ABC cancels it.

love Castle. Very little on t.v. viewing these is able to keep my attention. Hardly any thing has suspense with some comedy overtones, this is enjoyable and entertaining. I vote to Keep.
