Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Loved that show.. please bring it back!!
I agree!
We love the show and was very upset upon it’s cancellation. Many unanswered and unresolved situations that should have been cleared up.
Yes, loved this show. Great family show. Please bring it back.
Yes! Left hanging at end of Season 3.
It should return. One of the very series that you can watch with family, and the most important thing is there are so many unanswered questions. Please bring it back may be for 1 big episode like a movie.
Yes cedar cove should be renewed
There are so few wholesome series available today and to see that Hallmark decided to leave its viewers hanging with the cancellation of Cedar Cove truly saddens me. I have never been so disappointed with Hallmark. This series showed trials that people go through every day and how to work through them. It showed love and compassion. Needless to say the cancellation of Cedar Cove speaks volumes about what companies truly value – the bottom line. This may affect how I view Hallmark for future shows. I see that I am not alone with my feelings as many loyal viewers… Read more »
Thank you for saying the other things that I felt. I do not trust Hallmark any longer and will be wary of watching their shows from now on. “Hart of Dixie” ended with the viewer in mind. No questions and no negatives.
Please bring Cedar Cove back! You’ve left millions hanging! It is a great show, with a great cast. While I enjoy Chesapeake Shores, I’m afraid to get into a show that may be cancelled.
This is the heartfelt show which needs to keep going and going…
I loved this show, it was family, wholesome and light-hearted. It’s sad that the show has been cancelled. I hope at least they make a movie to tie up all the loose ends. Although my preference is definitely to keep the show going.
Cedar Cove was a great show that I loved to unwind to at the end of a long day. I absolutely LOVE Debbie Macombers writing, and love seeing her books come alive! Cedar Cove NEEDS to come back for more seasons!!!
Dawn, mom of 5, need to unwind!
It never should have been canceled!
I think watching any series anymore is useless. There is never a good family show that last more than a season a or two ! You get interested and it stops. It is sad, hallmark produces good shows. Time to stop watching !
So sorry to see it go. So few good moral shows on tv. I’ve counted on Hallmark to keep showing the best. Was sorry to see that the 2 stars were discussing moving in together at the end of last season. Oh well, a mute point now.
I loved the books. Wish that the series followed the books more than what they did.
