The current fifth season will be the end for the Key & Peele TV show on Comedy Central but the sketch comedy series hasn’t been cancelled.
Series star and co-creator Keegan-Michael Key told The Wrap, “This is our final season – and it’s not because of Comedy Central, it’s us. It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie.
He continued, “I’m thinking we could do that every three years – take a year, go bang out a movie. That’s the plan right now.”
Season five of Key & Peele debuted on Comedy Central on July 8th and will run into September. All 11 episodes have already been filmed.
What do you think? Do you like the Key & Peele TV show? Would you have watched a sixth season or, is it a good time to move on to other project?
Another example of people working on good shows getting to move on to other projects while the long-running animated crap (such as “South Park”) gets to stick around.
lol bad comparison. is cartman gonna strike out on his own and try other projects? are the kids gonna strike until they get a pay raise?
I REALLY like Key & Peele and am always looking forward to the next episode. However, it is not surprising to hear that the show will end. (It certainly is no surprise to learn that Key made the announcement.)
The show is good, funny, silly, popular, stupidly-funny and creative so there is no surprise to see them move on to bigger and better things.
They’re really a good team, and was very funny in Fargo the series. I think this is a good decision. The first couple seasons were really good. Every season since has been a lot of hit & miss. Maybe they needed more writers, and maybe they needed more variety from having more guest stars on a regular basis. In any case it’s better to bow out now for a while and still have plenty of options rather than to keep going and watch ratings tank from not knowing when the public has had enough.
