Leverage: Exec Producer Dean Devlin on Series Cancellation

Leverage canceledEarlier this month, Leverage executive producer Dean Devlin penned an open letter to fans of the TNT series. He wrote that it was still unknown if Leverage would be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season so the fifth season finale had been shot as a fitting end, just in case.

TNT has now offiically cancelled the TV show so Devlin has written another letter to the viewers.

The Long Goodbye is our final goodbye.

It has been decided today that this Tuesday’s episode of Leverage “The Long Goodbye Job” will be the series finale as TNT has decided not to renew the show for a sixth season.

I want to take the opportunity to thank TNT for five amazing seasons and 77 episodes of a show that has been so good to me. I’m incredibly proud of the show and what we’ve accomplished. Throughout this journey TNT have been the most amazing partners. Their support and collaboration I will cherish forever.

I also want to thank everyone involved in making the show. Tim, Gina, Beth, Christian and Aldis are the finest ensemble of actors I’ve ever worked with. They’ve become our partners, our friends and our family.

The amazing crew who pulled off miracles every day on our show. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed. Your blood and sweat is in every frame of our series and I’m eternally in your debt.

And, of course, on behalf of everyone involved in the show, thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us and the show. You have amazed us all. We love you and thank you all.

I’m so happy we were able to film the series finale we had always envisioned and I’m happy we’re able to present it on Christmas as our gift to you. It’s a bittersweet goodbye.

Gratefully yours,

Dean Devlin

I’m disappointed that Leverage was cancelled! I watch it over-air on ION and fortunately they run several episodes in a row, twice a week. I was talking to my sister Beth about Leverage and how much we LOVE the show, the Characters and their portrayals and the writing. In reading the comments above, I’m sure that there would be a large viewing audience for Leverage and other quality shows. Why do networks defer to negative, stupid useless shows (with bad acting and writing) that are a waste of air space??? It sounds like bad management and catering to an audience that is too selfish to raise their standards and find it easier to choose to wallow in sub-par tv shows that reinforces arrogance and materialism. Maybe if they watched Leverage, they might learn to consider other people and want to be a benefit to society instead of a drain. BRING BACK LEVERAGE!!!!!

I have enjoyed every one of the shows, with the exception of the last one. I haven’t watched it yet and probably won’t, unless you bring Leverage back.

I was not able to afford the rising cost of cable TV, so about the end of season 2 I had to stop watching as it was aired. However, I did catch it on Netflix every time it was available. Leverage was 1 of the very few, high quality shows, that didn’t set out to try and see how much blood and gore they could get by with before being censored. They also didn’t show make believe things that could never happen. (Well okay, a few of the things may be impossible in real life.) But, it was realistic.

The show was something everyone could relate to. Almost everyone has been wronged by an employer, or someone hiding behind the law. Leverage was a show that you can say, “I had that happen to me,” or “I know someone that had that happen to them.”

It is sad that a show like Leverage was canceled, and it was more realistic than reality TV shows ever are. I hope it gets picked up by a network, and they do it justice.

I love the characters in Leverage and the general story line. There must be more interesting story lines to fill another season with the very same cast. ONE MORE SEASON PLEASE!!!

Please do not cancel csi/ny. We have enough of the stupid, trashy, senseless, boring reality shows. I would like to see csi/miami come back but without Adam Rodriquez.

I accidentally came across the first season of leverage whilst channel surfing it was at a point where the Elliot character was pounding some bad guys and as i was a fan of christian,s anyway from his time on Angel i decided to watch the rest of the episode then find out about the series on wiki. I have not missed an episode since it,s sad that the show has ended and i,ll miss it but fortunately in england we are still watching the final episodes so the party ain,t over yet.!!

I had written previously about the fact that this was one of those rare shows that employed enormous talent and enjoyment. Also a rare programming that the entire family could enjoy together….a rarity.
Please consider bringing back or shopping other network options. We need Leverage and we need to enjoy family viewing in our home!

Leverage was one of a handful of unique programming…….a program for our family to watch together! The talent, the stories, the quality…..unique to today’s programming choices. Please find another network that will keep Leverage going. We love the cast and the different personalities they each brought to their characters. Unique. We are so tired of all the ‘viewer junk’ that we have to chose from & Leverage was the ‘viewer quality’ that we looked forward to every week. Please, save us by saving Leverage!

With all the garbage on TV these days, it is incredibly disappointing to loose one of the highest quality programs. I’m not interested in why it was cancelled, WE WANT IT BACK!
