Each year, members of the Television Critics Association (TCA) gather for two big press events, one in the summer and one in the winter. It’s a chance for the journalists who don’t live in Los Angeles to rub noses with TV producers, stars, and network executives.
Since 1984, the members of the TCA have voted for outstanding achievements in television with the awards handed out at the July press tour. In 2002, the TCA began honoring the iconic figures in TV with its Heritage Award. The four shows that have been nominated in this category are truly diverse and memorable. Which one would you choose?

My choice would be All In The Family & that is my favorite category as well! Ground breaking & important & still hilarious to this day!
Definitely The Dick Van Dyke Show. Hands down. And no one deserves a career achievement award as much as the brilliant Cloris Leachman. On a side note, I love that the actor categories combine men and women. All awards should be like that. I’ve never understood the difference between their work.
My choices would be:
Heritage Award
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Career Achievement Award
Cloris Leachman
Program of the Year
Justified (FX)
Outstanding New Program
Walking Dead (AMC)
Outstanding Achievement in Drama
Justified (FX)
Individual Achievement in Drama
Timothy Olyphant (Justified, FX)
Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming
Sesame Street (PBS)
Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials
Downton Abbey: Masterpiece (PBS)
I skipped the reality and comedy categories as I dislike reality programming and don’t watch any of the comedy shows listed. I’d have to say my favorite categories are those related to drama as the majority of the programs I watch are scripted dramas. I’m thrilled to see Justified with so many nominations. It’s such a fine hour of television and I truly hope it walks away with tons of awards!
The Heritage category was a no-brainer for me. I’m a huge Dick Van Dyke fan so it was no question as to my selection there. I was actually a little surprised to see Freaks and Geeks and Twin Peaks nominated with Dick Van Dyke and All in the Family. Both shows seem out of place with two television classics like DVD and AITF as I personally don’t consider either Freaks and Geeks or Twin Peaks to be “classics” in the same vein as the other two nominees.
