Brian d’Arcy James is a busy guy. Deadline reports the Spotlight actor has been cast in Netflix’s new series 13 Reasons Why and the TNT drama pilot Civil.
D’Arcy James has previously starred in the TV series Mozart in the Jungle, Smash, and The Good Wife.
Based on the 2007 novel by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why follow Clay (Dylan Minnette), a boy who finds a box full of cassettes from his former crush Hannah (Katherine Langford), who recently committed suicide. The cast also includes Kate Walsh.
D’Arcy James will play “Hannah’s father, a pharmacist and small-business owner who deals with his daughter’s death by throwing himself into his work and trying to keep his store alive in the face of competition all while dealing with he and his wife’s over the loss of their daughter.”
From Scott Smith, Civil “takes place in the wake of a hotly contested Presidential election, as America finds itself plunging uncontrollably into a modern day Civil War.” D’Arcy James will play a reasonably-minded news producer named Graham Beller. The actor joins fellow castmembers Bradley Whitford, Courtney B. Vance, and Toby Jones.
