ABC gave 666 Park Avenue a lot of promotion leading into the fall season. Has it paid off? Is the new show a ratings success or is it in danger of being cancelled instead?
If you haven’t seen it, 666 Park Avenue follows a Midwest couple who’ve moved to New York City and end up managing The Drake, a prestigious residential hotel. They feel like they’re living their dream lives — until they realize that every dream comes with a price. The TV series features the talents of Terry O’Quinn, Vanessa Williams, Dave Annable, Rachael Taylor, Robert Buckley, Mercedes Masöhn, Helena Mattsson, Samantha Logan, and Erik Palladino.
The show debuted on September 30th, in ABC’s troubled Sundays at 10pm timeslot (see: Pan Am, GCB). The premiere’s ratings weren’t very impressive, attracting a mediocre 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.9 million total viewers. That was 30% lower than what Pan Am had registered last fall — and we all know what happened to that show.

Unfortunately, Park Avenue’s numbers have gotten even worse since the debut. The coveted demographic dropped to a 1.7 rating in week two (down 19%) and a 1.5 rating in week three (down another 12%). The ratings perked up a bit in weeks four (a 1.7 rating) and five (a 1.6 rating) but are still terrible.
A couple weeks ago, ABC ordered two more scripts for Park Avenue, likely to give the network execs some extra time to continue watching the ratings and then determine the show’s fate. If they were hoping for growth, they were disappointed.
ABC initially ordered 13 episodes of Park Avenue. They could put some more into production but that seems unlikely given the ratings. We’re heading into the holiday season so the show will probably be pre-empted and that will likely hurt the numbers even more.
For whatever reason, this one just hasn’t resonated with a large audience. At this point, unless the ratings start getting better, it looks like 666 Park Avenue is doomed to be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Do you like the TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season? Could anything be done to attract more viewers or is it already too late?
I think it’s a great show, as was Pan Am and GCB. It is really annoying when they cancel good shows like these. I would like you to put 666 Park Avenue back on the air and keep the episodes and seasons coming! :). An idea to get more viewers and a broader audience is to promote it overseas, in Scandinavia and Europe for example. Like in Scandinavia, we haven’t got the same rules you do about what is age appropriate to watch on tv. So something you would rate as PG 18 for example might be PG 15 here… Read more »
Keep the show just change time to 900 and put on Friday
NO! This is an excellent show! The only one I watch on Sunday nights! Sick to death of all the reality shows! I love being able to watch a show that isnt mindless and leaves you excited for the next show!
Aargh!!!!!! They always cancel the good ones. Terra Nova, Pan Am, and now 666 Park Avemue. I am hooked on it. And so is my husband. So, what are they going to do, just sa see ya! And leave us hanging!!!! Again, I say, AARGH!!!!!!! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE SHOW!!!!!
Please don`t cancel the movie. It is to interesting the story and I just love it.I hope really soon I could watch at the new episods.
I cannot believe this another cancellation, that was one of the best show on ABC.
Now days everything it base on reality tv or CSI, Criminal mind, so sick and tired of those shows. It’s one of the tv shows I watch. Please give it another chance. I look forward to watch this show every Sunday night, and catch up again the next on my ipad the next day.
It’s an awesome show please don’t cancel
This show is great, but why did the abc execs put it in this time slot? no show is going to compete with the cable shows (ex: dexter, homeland, boardwalk empire etc). they might as well put reruns on at this time. I love how the networks put a show in a time slot that is already domed and then pull the plug before trying other times. I only watch it on demand since there are other shows I want to see more at that time.
Veryyyy True! The time slot is extremely competitive!
yes, me and my family want this show to continue. you cant expect every show to be first in the ratings, its impossible and you cant judge the ratings because lots of people tape shows, tivo, etc. You cant place the fate of shows on a few younger people in the midwest with this nielsen baloney. I dont want my tv viewing dictated by these strangers. How about the older generation, dont we count? There have been so many shows cancelled in the past couple of years, its getting more and more annoying to watch tv. You get hooked and… Read more »
It’s a great show! Please don’t cancel it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Completely addicted!..always looking forward to next episode, hate when it ends..its a great show, don’t understand why ratings are so low.
Come on, you can’t cancel it! Please, Please keep it on the air. The story line is great. It keeps you stuck to the edge of your seat, and what a great cast. They’re all so great. Gavin is fabulous. Wouldn’t want to make any deals with him!
I think the show can still make it. I would make it a bit less unbelievable and just stick to it being scary. However, it needs to connect to something. It is just like it is driting, not moving anywhere. The writers should reexamine what they wanted to portray on the show and then try and give it a face lift. I still say Brothers and Sisters should never have been cancelled but should have never given up the story line with Ohai foods. Even if some characters left, others come in and things change for people in real life.… Read more »
