This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

Good story line and great to watch on Friday nites. Tired of all the reality and crime shows. Listen to the followers of this television show and give them what they want.
We love “A Gifted Man” at our house, please don’t cancel. It has a great cast and we love the stories.
I am drawn to the characters of this storyline. I have watched every episode of A Gifted Man and thoroughly looked forward to coming home to watch it, especially after a long week at work. Like everyone else, I think the Friday night time slot didn’t give this show a fair shake. Three of the five women in our office watched this show and I certainly fit the demographic that this show was targeting. When I heard from one of my co-workers that this show is being cancelled, I was just sick! I truly hope CBS reconsiders its decision. Otherwise,… Read more »
Don’t cancel A Gifted Man! Give it a chance! It’s a GREAT show! We are tired of the same old stuff on TV. This show is refreshing. Please just give people a chance to discover it. I know it will take off!
This is a great show, love the story line and characters are great…I haven’t missed one episode…try a different time and night. Please don’t cancel this, I can actually watch this with my son without having to cover his ears or eyes.
Please reconsider
I like the show and don’t want to see it go off for good…Please give it another chance…
I never even saw it advertised and stumbled across it on iTunes. I absolutely love love love this show! Please don’t cancel it CBS. Time slot is clearly an issue. It is a clever show with compelling story lines. Thank goodness intelligent shows are being made rather than mind numbing/lowest common deminator garbage like reality shows.
I love this show and am sad that every time I find a show to really like, it gets canceled. At least if you decide to cancel a show you could give those who spent time watching it some closure before you cancel. These people come into our homes and make us care then they are gone in the middle of the story. It makes you want to stop watching tv altogether.
My wife and I are devoted fans of A Gifted Man. One of the pleasures of Friday night. We hope CBS gives it more time to catch on.
Greetings!
I usually do not watch any tv on Friday nights but in January happened to see “A Gifted Man”. The show is superb and a delight to watch. I would greatly appreciate if CBS would not cancel the program. I was hopeing that the shows would appear on DVD so I could watch the earlier shows. Perhaps a different night of the week would be a better slot for the show to pick up additional viewers.
This is my favorite show now! Please bring it back. It is wonderful – great actors and storylines. Please reconsider!
11 of the top 20 shows this season-to-date are CBS. They are kicking the other networks butts! With these numbers CBS can surely give A Gifted Man another chance. When it comes to total viewers, it is consistently number 1 on Fridays in its time slot. I don’t understand the ratings being based on 18-49 age group. Some of the viewers started watching it late and then they ended the season in March. Ugh! Why do all the good shows get cancelled? I have had enough of crime and reality shows. If CBS would just renew it, I bet the… Read more »
I started to watch this program when it first aired. I told my wife she should watch it too. However, it took several episodes before she gave it a try. Now, she and I both enjoy watching it together. I believe the episodes have established an upramping storyline which continues to entertain. I believe the show’s real problem is the Friday night timeslot. I believe this program would bring more viewers in a different timeslot. I would tivo it under any circumstances.
It would be a huge shame if this show was cancelled. I seldom watch nighttime television but I NEVER miss this show. There is so much heart to this show and maybe if you move it to another slot and give it a few more episodes you will see it increase.
Cancel it just when we were becoming devoted fans? Please give this fine show another chance. Iknow many folks who watch Undercover Boss, so I was hoping that it would serve as a lead-in to Gifted Man and keep it on the air.
