This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

If you cancel the Gifted Man, so much for what had been the “Velvet Network”. It’s plot line was interesting, ‘tho the writers drifted a bit at times, and along with CSI: NY and Blue Bloods meant a fine evening of watching quality TV on a network that used to be known for quality. Cancel it, and you’ve lost my family Friday evenings. There are millions of others who will follow — just watch the stats.
I love this show…the people are likeable and human, stories are interesting and the information is spot on. Actually learned something I was suffering from had a name and was treatable. What a surprise! Please keep it going. It’s not about cops or murders or dead bodies. Bring it back! Bring it back!
are you kidding. a gifted man has been the bright spot in the cbs network. it shows the way life is and the ghost thing is great. guess what cbs top people ghost are here. people may not admit that there are ghost but the people i talk to they know that they are real. i loved the connection that all the cast members had with each other, but i felt that you need to focus on love and attraction. Why did you end the relationship with zeke and michaels sister. and you need to bring the hot attraction with… Read more »
This show deserves a chance. Especially when other totally ridiculous reality shows remain on tv season after season.
Ah…another CBS show cancelled… A gifted man…ah…I loved the show. CBS doesn’t know what it is doing. This is the third show that was cancelled that I like, Moonlight, Ghost Whisperer and now A gifted man. What’s wrong CBS? I do think the Friday night time slot that all these shows were on is a bad time slot because many people are out on Friday nights at that time. I think that has something to do with it. Ah…sorry to see a Gifted man Go.
Of course they’ll cancel it. Network exec’s don’t really watch anything or care about anyone. Pleas for continuance falls on deaf ears. It’s all about the numbers – demographics – ratings. Hey Execs – here’s a thought — Why not give a terrific show with enormous potential a fighting chance? It might prove financially rewarding (that’s what they understand) beyond your wildest dreams! How about move it to Wednesday night where there is NO competition. Here’s another thought for the execs – people are going to quit watching new shows altogether so as not to become invested in it and… Read more »
I am a 21 year old college student who looks forward to coming home every weekend and watching shows like A Gifted Man with my parents. We love the show and would hate to see it go off the air although we have many other favorites such as the CSI franchise and Blue Bloods.
you keep junk on like “wrestling and new jersey girls” and take off this show… I looked forward to seeing this every Friday. The actors, superb… what is wrong with this network? Are we going to be subjected to low grade reality shows… or strictly cops and robber?
I never even knew this show was on the air until the last few shows. I bought it on apple tv so I could watch the previous episodes.. I love this show. I am so sick of reality tv I could scream. This Is a great show and very entertaining. This show should be promoted by the network, not cancelled before it even has a chance to succeed.
NO! My whole family looks forward to watching this show on Friday nights. DON’T CANCEL! It’s such a great show!
This show is entertaining and a great drama. Better plots than ER at its’ peak and (it would seem) endless opportunites for writers to keep us tuning in. It would be a shame to see it go. If you must end it – pass it on to another network, please.
Keep the ex-wife and the meditation hogwash out of the show and it would do so much better!
Please do NOT cancel this show. It is one of the best dramas on tv.
The cast and plots are excellent. I look forward to this show each week.
So many shows that are terrible remain on the air. Please keep this
show going!
I think this show is great and look forward to watching it every week with my Mother-in-law. We are missing it already. I hope you will keep this wonderful show with its great cast and group of characters. Thanks!
Don’t cancel the show, finally a show that is not about cops or murders and sex. Finally a decent show and they want to cancel it.
Don’t cancel it please
