This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

Please bring back A Gifted Man! It’s one of the few shows I watch on a regular basis. It was a well written show and well acted. Please bring it back!
I really loved this show. I feel it was an original and was well presented. Please don’t cancel it as it was one of my favorites. Most of the shows are violent and this one was a wonderful combination of love and dedication to helping people without all the nonsensical violence that seems to be in most shows these days.
My husband and I looked forward to this show every week – even when it moved to 9 pm. Now it will probably be replaced with another reality show or trash comedy. If that’s what the 18-49 demographic is about, that explains a lot! There’s so much bad stuff going on in the world that it’s nice to see an uplifting show. We also liked CSI Miami and Unforgettable, both of which got “axed”, too. Way too many reality shows and trash comedy. CBS forgets about the “older” demographic who is above 49. I’m very disappointed. I guess it just… Read more »
Well written, beautifully portrayed and inspiring. There isn’t enough of this kind of uplifting tv. I agree a better night would do the ratings wonders. Please renew this excellent show!
A Gifted Man is a fantastic show. I, and all my friends love it. We are hoping it will return. Many of the other shows are not fit to watch, but this one is special. Please return it for next season. I, for one, will not watch CBS again until I see AGF man on your network. I hope the powers that be look at these comments and realize what a mistake they’re making if they don’t continue A gifted Man.
I agree, the Gifted Man is a heartwarming program. Better him than the many reality & so called comedy shows that are taking over all channels. Enough is enough. Back to good programming!!
I’m so disappointed that The Gifted Man is getting axed, so sad, my husband I reallylooked forward watching the show every week, I agree with the rest of all the others finally a show the was awesome and to put more trash on. Reality TV theres way to much and mostly TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Please bring The Gifted Man back
I’m really bummed this show was cancelled. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the show.Hope it won’t be replaced by one more dumb reality show or talent show.Ugh!
A Gifted Man was a great show, and our family enjoyed watching it together without all the profanity and nudity that most of the shows bring, including Survivor. The cancellation of this show is why we are seriously considering giving up “TV” altogether and going to NetFlix where we can control what we watch. Again, “the love of money” reigns supreme over good clean safe family programming.
just enjoyed the show i wish cbs will change it mined
If CBS does drop AGM then I would be the first to suggest Michael Holt do a brain transplant for the brain-trust(s) responsible.
This show is awesome and fulfilling you should bring it back…
This was one of my favorite shows. I surely hope that we can get a season 2. Maybe the time slot should be changed to catch a bigger audience. Changing it to another day would surely have people watch this show. Fridays aren’t the best night for these type of drama. It is a show that the whole family can watch.
Shame on YOU CBS!!! Finally a show the whole family can watch that you aren’t haven’t to censor or hide small eye. This was a great show with great acting. I am so sad to see this show go.
Can’t believe another good show gets the axe. What are we left with? Trash TV (ie The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Two and a Half Men, etc. etc.). Thank goodness for cable.
Please, Please, Please CBS bring The Gifted Man back!!!
