This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

CBS will have plenty of room on night time TV after they cancel CSI NY and perhaps CSI Miami. I heard a few weeks ago that A Gifted Man may be cancelled. It is hard to keep an interest in a show that is already on the chopping block. Friday is usually a horrible night for TV but, this year we’ve had A Gifted Man with Patrick Wilson who is not only very handsome but, also a good actor. The supporting cast is wonderful. I really hope that CBS will leave at least one of my favorite shows alone. I… Read more »
We love the show, but figured it would be cancelled, because it doesn’t fit with today’s predominantly mindless, violence and sex seeking TV audience. Most things we like are cancelled. Please don’t cancel it CBS, or if you do, NBC please pick it up!!
Great show! I love it! NBC should pick it up if CBS cancels it.
This show is so good. Please please keep it on!!!!
I love “A Gifted Man”. The cast is exceptional. Please don’t cancel.
This is the best show on TV! CBS PLEASE KEEP IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a great show, good story, with a bad time slot. I hope CBS gives it a chance to catch on.
It would be a big mistake to cancel this brilliant show. It is one of this season’s best offerings
Pls reconsider and give it a second season
I enjoyed this show, but CBS not opting for a full season order and a timeslot change are two signs that the show was on the “chopping block” for cancellation. I am interested to know how the character development of Michael, Kate, and most importantly, Anna, will continue on in season 2. That is, if there is one. But again, the network not giving a full season order would be a cause for concern if you (like me) are someone who looks forward to watching a show every week. I felt this way last year when they aired “The Defenders”,… Read more »
I think if they want a hit, they need to make it a hit. Commercials. media, ads. and airing the show at other times so people can catch it and see how they feel. I loved the show from the beginning. The writers were able to make Michael human, or finally show signs his heart was changing. He may actually care about someone other than himself. Another thing is airing it the same time as other popular shows limits the audience. Re run it say on Tuesday night, not against a popular show and give new people a chance to… Read more »
I hope it stays, but if not i hope NBC picks it up. Please do not replace it with garbage like survivor.

This show is an excellent drama, my whole family really enjoys watching it every week. I also have many friends that also love this show. I don’t know what CBS is thinking. Please give this show another chance, there are many more people that love this show. for goodness sake CBS do the right thing and renew this show.
I love the show and pray CBS doesn’t cancel it. There is so much junk on television, and this was such a welcome respite from that. I’m in the 64 age group, so I suppose no one in power cares what I think.
Incredible how a great show like “A Gifted Man” gets cancelled while crappy ones remain! I’ve spoken to about 6/7 friends and none have heard of this show nor have they seen it advertised. How about advertising with a bang! You should have done so prior to the season premier and during. Stupid CBS…you don’t beleive in your own show
or writers. You really should return for season 2 with amazing advertising… Maybe some other station will pick it up and know how to promote/advertise. Guess that’s why cable is doing so much better.
Say it aint so!!! Finally I love CBS on Fridays, I have shows to look forward to now. Please don’t cancel A Gifted Man. A Gifted Man, CSI NY, Blue Bloods are a great line up for CBS!!!
