Though it’s pulled in less-than-impressive ratings, CBS has ordered three additional episodes of A Gifted Man.
Airing on Friday nights, A Gifted Man revolves around a talented and self-absorbed upscale surgeon (Patrick Wilson) who begins to change his view on life when he’s visited by the ghost of his dead ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle). Others in the series include Julie Benz, Liam Aiken, Margo Martindale, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, and Eriq La Salle.
The newbie series has been averaging a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 8.35 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated show on the network and has been doing worse in the all-important demo than now-cancelled Medium did a year earlier. On the positive side however, Gifted Man typically pulls in twice as many viewers as the show’s competitors on any of the other networks.
CBS has ordered three additional episodes of A Gifted Man, bringing the season total to 16 installments. That’s a far cry from a full season order and, unless things improve, it’s difficult to imagine that the network will order a second season.
Three of the network’s other new shows — 2 Broke Girls, Person of Interest and Unforgettable — received full season pickups while How To Be A Gentleman was quickly cancelled. CBS hasn’t announced their mid-season schedule yet so it’s unknown what the network will put in A Gifted Man’s timeslot when the series has completed its run.
What do you think? Should CBS order more episodes of A Gifted Man or cancel it when the current season is finished?

Keep it going! We love it!
This is the program I wait for every week. People are competing to do good, the characters are quite unique, yet representatives of the complex society we live in. It is not built on crime as most of what we can see on TV this days and shows an interesting perspective of today society. Please don’t cancel it.
I love A Gifted Man. I’ve watched all the episodes and it keeps getting better. It deserves a second season and perhaps even a new day.
I Love this show. Its nice to have something to watch that celebrates more positive values rather than glorifying drugs, sex, and crime. Sure Those topics Are here, but they are addressed thoughtfully and focus on the decisions and choices leading to or resulting from the behavior. Watch as a family and then discuss. Great conversation starter with preetens. Wish there was a way to change how ratings are calculated .
I throughly enjoy “A Gifted Man”, I have seen every episode live or taped delayed.
The family gathers together every Friday night to watch “A Gifted Man” and when its over we can’t wait until the following Friday for the next episode. Grant a second season, it’s a winner. A change from all the violence on TV.
Change the day and you will get more viewers.
I absolutely love, love this show . It is about time we had some shows other than police, and murder shows I am sooooooooo over them.
Friday night episode was amazing !! I think it is my favorite thus far. I agree , different day would be helpful with rating. Friday nights are tuff on tv. This is going to be a hit, the writers are figuring it out nicely. The storyline in the show is evolving to a point now the anticipation factor is there. Friday can not get here fast enough. It is at the point now where we can’t wait until Friday’s! Dr. Holt humanity colors have surface and please for god sakes let him Find love, has to be with Kate! I… Read more »
I wish this was on at a later time and on a different day, since I have to record it to watch when it is more convenient. Some times I have to save up several episodes and watch them all at one time.
I’m not sure how you would count my viewing habits as far as the ratings go but believe me I do like this series. It shows good values and doesn’t celebrate bad behavior, like so many other series currently on a lot of other stations.
Please renew it and keep it on the air.
YES, PLEASE KEEP THIS ON THE AIR!
IT IS A VERY UNIQUE AND THOUGHT PROVOKING CONCEPT. IT IS ONE OF THE FEW SERIES THAT ACTUALLY SHOWS PEOPLE DOING GOOD THINGS FOR ONE ANOTHER. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT SHOWS A DR. WHO CARES FOR ALL HIS PATIENTS, BOTH POOR AND WELL OFF. I ALSO LIKE HOW IT SHOWS THAT WHEN WE LOSE SOMEONE WE LOVE, THEY ARE NEVER TRULY GONE FROM OUR THOUGHTS. ANOTHER GOOD CONCEPT OF THIS SERIES.
Love “a gifted man” it is different than any other show! Captivating! We cannot wait for Friday nights to see Michael Holt! The cast has amazing chemistry and the writing is fantastic! I was so sad to hear it was cancelled! Then each week a new episode and now a new time slot! There is “Holt” I mean hope!!!
A Gifted Man is a wonderful show. On a Friday night, pulling in over 8 million viewers is amazing. I really hope they order more, the show has a steady fan base and it is really one of the best hours on TV.
A Gifted Man is probably my favorite show. I hope you keep it on. There are not many shows on now that are worth watching. It seem like every time I find a show I really like they take off the air. Please don’t do that with “A Gifted Man”.
I love this show. It is different, which is why I like it so much. I love my crime shows but isn’t it time for something new. Patrick Wilson is new to me and I find that I like him very much. With him as the lead and the fantastic supporting cast there is such potential for a great drama. I agree with the previous person, change the day and you will have many more viewers. Give it a REAL chance. When you have a good idea like this you shouldn’t give up on it so quickly. I think you… Read more »
This show is amazing Brilliant cast and terrific writing makes this one of the best new shows of the 2011-2012 television season. I hope that this show gets another season and many more in the years to come. I think that they really need to change the day and time slot of this show and they would definitely get more viewers. Everyone that watches raves about this show. Truly amazing.
I am typically not a TV buff, having a very busy schedule doesn’t leave much time for television. We are well educated professionals, and a lot of what’s on tv these days isn’t worth the time it takes to watch it. But the show “A Gifted Man” is absolutely tremendous. We have doctors in our family and this show brings out some of the reality of the real world we live in, even through the surreal moments. Heart wrenching, stirring, provoking…I make sure I am in front of the TV Fridays at 8. I would suggest CBS moves this to… Read more »
