Sometimes, TV shows that are based movies can be big successes. Sometimes not. About a Boy was not and now NBC has cancelled it after two seasons without even airing all of the episodes.
About a Boy revolves around San Francisco songwriter Will Freeman (David Walton) who had a big hit. It set him up for life financially — and gave him a lot of freedom and free time. His world is turned upside down when a charming boy named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) and single mom named Fiona (Minnie Driver) move in next door.
The sitcom debuted in February of 2014 with a special preview episode that attracted a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. In its regular timeslot a week later, the ratings rose a bit to a 2.47 rating with 8.36 million. The numbers started falling after that but NBC still renewed it for a second season.
Season two performed even worse and lost a lot of steam. It hit a new series low of a 0.69 rating in the demo with 2.41 million viewers. NBC decided to trim About a Boy’s episode order by two and then opted to drop it from the schedule, leaving six installments unaired.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the leftover episodes and, now that they’ve cancelled the series, it doesn’t look likely that they will.
What do you think? Do you like the About a Boy sitcom? Would you like to watch the remaining six episodes?
So im at a boarding school and my life revolves around Netflix. In 3 days, i have binge watched the show and am currently on season 2 episode 9. I think its a fantastic show. I hope to see more of it.
Bring season 3
I dont have cable and just watched this on Netflix , both seasons, and loved it so much! Googled to see when season 3 would start and so sad to find out it was canceled last year :(. .. Such a funny wholesome show!
This seriously breaks my heart I absolutely love this show!
I don’t understand why the networks move shows around that they know have outstanding ratings, but don’t on the ones that have good ratings. Obviously, if the show has good ratings, it’s a good show, just in a bad time slot. I really enjoyed this show and am upset that they didn’t feel it was worth the effort to make it work. Meanwhile, shows with no integrity or substance, aka The Bachelor/Bachelorette, remain holding down prime time slots. Please, if it is not too late, bring back this show.
About a boy was a great to me. To me it was a sweet show that had a lot love and direction that some young adults needed especially now a days there’s a lot of single parents. I think they should consider making a season 3 and just end it with a bang. Maybe even just airing it only on netflix
I think this I one of the best shows I have ever seen… me and my boyfriend can’t stop watching it… the actors are perfect for there parts and we want to see more… I would pay to see more of this show… please bring it back…
Make season 3 a Netflix Original?
Where do we get the last episodes?????
I loved the show about a boy, it was light, heartwarming and funny. Cant they just air the rest of the episodes on Netflix? That is where most of the people watch shows these days anyway! Please bring it back!!!
PLEASE PLEASE BRING SEASON 3!! I love love loveeeee this show! It’s heartfelt, empathetic, funny, and I enjoyed every minute of the past two season!! PLEASE PLEASE BRING IN SEASON 3! (We need closure… We got attached to the characters and emotionally invested in their lives… Don’t leave us hanging :/ )
I loved this show. I is well written good hearted and Minnie Driver has wonderful comedic timing as do so many of the other actors. It was quality tv. So sad to see it go.
Absolutely devastated to find out it was cancelled. Just finished watching Seaon 2 on Netflix and loved it. Definitely would like to see the last 6 episodes!
Are you kidding me age range of 19-49?? Hah!! That’s a load of BS if I ever heard it. The kids I look after (6,8&12) love the show and binge watched it with me(glad they don’t understand the adult humor in it though Ahah). When we finished season 2 they wanted to watch more and were disappointed when I told them there was only 2 seasons. Get your **** together NBC and bring back a third season!
Just started watching on Netflix – so funny. I was going to set my DVR tonight to record new episodes! This stinks!!
