What’s This TV Show About?
A drama series airing on the ABC television network, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. In a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world, Eileen is on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled. Telly’s Take
Will ABC cancel or renew Alaska Daily for season two? The show is produced by ABC’s sister studio 20th Television (Disney owns both) which is an important factor these days. The traditional ratings aren’t great, but the series picks up nearly 90% more viewers in delayed viewing. With the right storyline, I think viewers could be enticed to watch live. I just found Alaska Daily. It’s got it all! Great acting, intriguing plot, real life issue which can bring awareness to a larger audience. Love it and will be sad and disappointed if it, like other good shows I found too late, have been.
I think Alaska Daily is an excellent show. It demonstrates the potential intelligence of a well written and well acted TV show. So much of TV fare is mindless. Please consider the human impact of this show that highlights horrendous injustices to scores of indigenous women and their families.

My fault for not watching this live if that would have helped ratings. I caught up on season 1 after the fact and this was a riveting series! There needs to be a season 2! Also have really enjoyed Will Trent this year.
This is by far one of the best programs on any network. ABC should be proud to air it. I am an indigenous Canadian woman and the story lines presented represent global abuse of indigenous people. And an education all of us need to have. Please renew this amazing program. Let it speak to the integrity of ABC to continue to tell these powerful and true stories.
Next to Will Trent, Alaska Daily is the best new show of this season. I love that this hasn’t been partisan in the politics. I love them taking on the gruesome, sad reality of the treatment of the Indigenous culture, specifically the missing and dead women throughout the years. Hillary Swank is amazing. The entire cast is amazing. We NEED a season two of both these excellent shows! It’s been a while since we have looked forward to watching new offerings in a new season. Please don’t cancel. Looked forward to it each week. Worthwhile subject matter & good acting. A bonus is beautiful scenery too. I know others who enjoy it too. Keep it on.
