NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
Bummer…once again the networks take a good thing and screws it up. I liked Blacklist on Monday night so they move it to Thursday and put it up next to another I have watched, meaning one or the other gets seen on Hulu or? I loved Allegiance and took more than one episode to fully develope the characters. In fact it was on Hulu that I started watching it because I didn’t know what night it was on. Again the time and night were not fair to it and certainly not the marketing. Give it another chance and put it… Read more »
Loved the show. By far the best and now being cancelled. I also watched it on demand. Like other people here already mentioned other silly shows are being renewed. I also mainly watch NBC. Please bring Allegiance back. One never knew what happened next.
Great show and very disappointed if season 2 doesn’t come back. Give it a chance!
I loved the show! NBC should air season 2!
It really erks me and pisses me off when I find a show that I really like and the network cancels it…so upsetting, disappointing and agrevating. Allegiance was a very interesting spy show and well scripted. We get tuned into each character and then the network takes it away. I’ve noticed that NBC stopped airing Allegiance on Thursday’s and we watched the last few episodes On Demand. Maybe Netflix will pick up where NBC left off. Please NBC bring it back and try a different day and time to broadcast Allegiance. I am a big fan of NBC so please… Read more »
Gritty, great show! Hope a smart network will pick it up!
It’s so disappointing to see irrelevant, silly shows being renewed year after year and a nice plot like this going down. I think its demise is due to poor marketing: holds up perfectly.
I agree wholeheartedly!!!!! There are several shows that I consider irrelevant and uninteresting that have been renewed. I know everyone has different tastes but what passes for entertainment these days (The Bachelor for example) is very disappointing. I also agree that the low ratings, and subsequent demise, of Allegiance is due to poor marketing; no one even knew it existed. I found it myself purely by accident while scrolling through On-Demand channels. I don’t ever remember seeing a commercial, billboard, bus add, etc. It was an excellent show; sorry to see it go.
Give Allegiance another season to reach the audience. As far as Blacklist is concerned, great show and James Spader is a terrific actor.
I AM SO UPSET AND SO DISAPPOINTED.
BRING IT BACK PLEASE, PLEASE
I loved this show. I thought is was brilliant and wish they would continue. Please bring it back! Give it another chance, move the time slot, whatever but I think it will take off if given the opportunity.
This show’s one of the best spy movies ever produced. Great script, very well-produced, great chemistry, great acting & definitely better than “The Americans”. Please move it to another slot & it will improve.
I’m disappointed it got cancelled. I really like the show.
We loved the storyline in Allegiance! We were disappointed that NBC didn’t give it more time to catch on. We were able to finish out the season with shows that were put on the On Demand listings. We would like for another network to give it another try.
This is one of the best show that I recently watched. I am very disappointed that it’s been cancelled.
Don’t cancel!! I love this show!!
NBC changed the schedule and did a poor job informing viewers of the new time slot. Lucky for me I got On Demand otherwise I wouldn’t know which day it’s on!
Are you aware that the program never changed its time slot? NBC just stopped airing it on Thursdays at 10 PM EST, after the 5th episode. They continued showing the final 8 new episodes every Thursday, On Demand. I too prefer watching my favorite programs On Demand too. The Industry will have to figure out a way to account for all the people watching primarily “On Demand” in their rating system. Some people will even watch a series of past episodes at a later time. And the longer people wait, the less commercials we are forced to endure. Actually, with… Read more »
Show was great. Probably would do better at another timeslot.
