NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
I too am very disappointed that the show was not only taken off the air, but cancelled in its entirety. Replaced by mindless shows that are akin to the Kardashian types of shows. Allegiance had an excellent plot, the actors were and are amazing, the shows kept you engaged, the weekly shows always kept you on your seat waiting for the next weeks episode. To me, and many more, the show was and still is a success. The one thing that the show has that doesn’t exist anywhere on NBC is the message of “family”. A loving family that puts… Read more »
Lorna….Just so you know, Blacklist is coming back in the Fall. Allegiance was competing with other prime-time shows for eye-balls, so it lost out & was cut. It’s so much than “The Americans” in its 4th season by Fox.
Pleases at least make saeson two. It was great. Victor was so good. I love when he took out all those men. The whole show was great. I watched one on demand and couldn’t stop watching. I watched every episode in 3 days. I couldn’t wait to see when season two came on tv and (of course story of my life) i find out it’s canceled. I couldn’t wait to see Alex and Victor work together. Ot really is a great show. Please give it another shot and then decide. 5 episodes isnt enough to get people in. I never… Read more »
I didn’t start watching the Blacklist, until this season. Allegiance is so much better. The intrigue with Alex, Natalie and Katya is fascinating. It’s a shame that they had to kill off Alex’s partner and girl-friend.
We may not know the real reason for the cancellation 🙁 It is always the easiest to blame it on rating. It was a good show.
I think the may reason is that Russia is still a threat to the United States, and the world.
I think the may reason is that Russia is still a threat to the United States and the world, and somehow NBC executives knew about it. To me it was a great show. I don’t like The Americans because somehow it glorifies the Soviet Union.
I am very angry that you are taking Allegiance off the air. In fact, I think you are a crumb!
Just when a decent show comes to TV, it gets cancelled. I really enjoyed the cast, and story lines. I really wish NBC would reconsider or it could be picked up by another source. Also, I’d like to see the rest of the episodes.
Jo Ann….you can catch the rest of the episodes on NBC.com, Amazon Prime, or On-Demand.
This was a great show…can’t they change their minds and renew it? It was wonderful….made you think!
It was a great show. Cancellation is stupid. I find it hard to believe that there aren’t enough viewers to this series.
It’s not the number of viewers, it is the Nielsen rating which sets the price of ad space, if your rating is low, advertisers are not willing to pay more. The problem is Nielsen, it is at best highly inaccurate. I have read some blogs from Nielsen participants that seem to think it’s all made up and is actually a scam, perpetrated on the entire industry.
great show ,Cancelling is A stupid act.
Watched the series via Primetime on TWC. I saw all 13 episodes and enjoyed the series!
I (we) love the show Allegiance.
It can’t be rated by the view live on TV. I saw all of season 1 over Amazon Prime. Really convenient and no commercial.
It will be nice if – NBC <- could view the note/feedback from Amazon, Netflix and other broad band streaming sites, apps, etc.
Live TV isn't used as often now a days, due to everyone's busy lifestyle, but people view and catch up over board band streaming sites, apps, and more.
Otto….the reason why any network must gauge viewership from Live TV is the commercials that pay for the telecast. If nobody watches Live TV, there’ll be no advertisers & no telecasts. That’s what is happening now, i.e. the show being cut from Live TV due to lower viewership on Live TV. As for Amazon Prime, Hulu & Netflix, members have paid for their subscriptions to view streaming content, so no need for advertisers, but Live TV must first telecast the show, so the network still need the eye-balls to get advertisers to pay for the show.
Except that On Demand keeps the commercials for a few days, which is when I usually watch the program. Even later on, NBC keeps keeps commercials for advertising their own Network. I actually Prefer to watch prime time programming during the next couple of days, so that I can rewind and not miss anything. The Networks need to change their model to adjust for viewer watching habits, now that On Demand, etc is so popular. And besides ratings were not so bad to begin with, for “Allegiance”. Its just the high NBC requirements. If this was The CW, the show… Read more »
I really enjoyed this show. Great directing, fantastic camera work. A compelling, solid story line. That could have taken the viewer in many different directions. Katya is an intriguing, strong character. Played by actress Hope Davis who has amazing talent and brings her character to life. Glad to see her on the screen again. The Thursday time slot killed it. To new to go up against the already seasoned drama, The Blacklist. Maybe, release it in the summer, instead. It’s a shame I really hope it’s choosen to be brought back. Its hard to find a decent show that’s not… Read more »
I loved the show and am disappointed I won’t get to know what happens beyond the season finale!! It would be a great show for Netflix to take and show NBC they didn’t know what they threw away.
great show. hope someone picks it up
All of us need to tell NBC to renew for one more season at least, or risk losing more eye-balls to other networks.
I just loved this show and hope they bring it back and schedule it in a better time slot;.
The acting and directing is great and I hope the network will give it another shot.
It was a very good show. Slow at first but the last 4 episodes were unbelievable. Hope some one like Netflix picks up the show.
Trevor….if all of us storm ABC with our pleas, they may relent and reinstate the show. If we keep up the narrative, the advertisers may take notice & ask the studio to reinstate the show. Let’s turn up the volume, people.
Um… I agree with the idea, but its NBC…
Jane….you’re right about NBC..my bad.
