TV show description:
This sci-fi police drama takes place 35 years into the future, in the year 2048. It’s a world in which police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.
Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) is a cop who’s survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. He wakes up after a 17-month coma. He can’t remember much — except that his partner was killed. He’s lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. He suffers from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD and the “psychological rejection of his synthetic body part.”
John returns to work at the encouragement of his longtime ally, Captain Sandra Maldonado (Lili Taylor). Every cop must now be paired with a robot and, despite his passionate aversion to androids, John is no exception.
He’s partnered with a battle-ready MX-43 model. He abruptly terminates this pairing after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. As a result, technician Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook) introduces John to Dorian (Michael Ealy), a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.
Although these responses were deemed flaws, it’s these “flaws” that John relates to Dorian most — John is part-machine and Dorian is part-human. John and Dorian’s understanding of each other not only complements them, it connects them.
As he adjusts to working with his new partner, John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, like the sharp and insightful human intelligence analyst Detective Valerie Stahl (Minka Kelly) and Detective Richard Paul (Michael Irby), a distrustful man who doesn’t welcome John back with open arms.
Episode #13 – Straw Man
Kennex and Dorian revisit the past when a string of murders are similar to those committed by a serial killer who was put in jail by Kennex’s father. Dorian gets his first performance review after being reactivated.
First aired: March 3, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like the Almost Human TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for another season?
Fox sucks! This was a great show and we were looking forward to season 2. The writing and acting was excellent, much better than a lot of shows on today. What happened to the days when the networks gave shows time to find their audience?
I can’t believe Fox canceled this series. Almost human was a very enjoyable series. I thought for sure Fox would renew it because the premise, characters, and the acting was so good not to mention the comradery between the characters which is always my favorite part. I was hoping some network would pick it up and film new episodes. Fox you are the best network I feel you always have the best shows but this time you dropped the ball. But I am still a fan.
Didn’t fox also cancel Firefly after its first year? It became a cult classic. Goes to show you that FOX doesn’t know what they have until it is gone. They should have renewed it, but they didn’t.
I actually cried when I found out “Almost Human” was canceled. It was one of my favorite series. Maybe the ION network could pick it up and film new eps. I heard that’s what they did with the “Listener” (another favorite series of mine) I don’t care what network gets it as long as it gets revived. Please!
This was a good show and it is unfortunate that it was cancelled.
The SyFy channel or TNT should pick this up! It should be renewed by a channel where the fans would appreciate it, not by the “reality show” masses who don’t want to think for themselves!
Why are they canceling this show!!! I have been looking forward to the next season!!! How pathetic. Just goes to show us that our voices don’t really matter. People have to work, so not everyone can catch ALL the shows and all the networks are in competition when in actuality there is plenty of customer base to go around. I personally watch shows from several networks. It just depends in which show is on and what day and time. If they decided to put some shows rather than reality shows, maybe more people would watch. I HATE REALITY SHOWS!!! I… Read more »
Can’t believe they canceled this show. It Was getting better all the time as with any new show.
I really can’t bel this show was canceled. Big mistake
renewed it was a good show
leave it to Fox to cancel a great show before it gets traction
This was a great show with a great cast. The interaction between the two leads was really well done; the relationship really developed over the course of the season. I do not understand why A network would not renew this series.
What’s wrong with FOX? Great show, great script, great writing, excellent character development. Stupid management and dumb-ass critics.
Loved the show. Really sad to see the show go. Had a very good story line to follow and gave the real showstopper suspense in each episode that many big budget movies just fall short of. I am starting to feel like many others that I have heard from that until I know season two is coming out why bother but then I am conflicted with the notion that instead of just an hour and a half movie I am getting a mini series of around 15 hours. Some are better than others then like almost human you get gold… Read more »
Loved this show. Really going to miss it
A part of me still can’t believe this while, another part isn’t the least bit surprised. I’m afraid to get attached to new shows now, this has happened so many times. I’ve adopted the habit of waiting to see if shows make it to the second season before I give them a look and I’m not having any problem with this… give it a try.
I feel the same way….now I wait to see if a series makes it past the first season before watching it.. I really enjoyed this programme was always looking forward to the next episode.. now I have “reality tv” to look forward to (NOT!)…..just wish another network picked it up…..but ah well
I agree!!! My favorite shows keep getting cancelled. Being Human on SyFy, Dracula on NBC, I even found a new show I like in the UK, and it’s cancelled after 3 seasons. STUPID NETWORKS!!!
