The franchise began as a 1950s novelty record, which spawned more, and a comic series, then the early 1960s CBS primetime cartoon, The Alvin Show, which ran for 26 episodes. In 1983, NBC‘s animated Alvin and the Chipmunks premiered and ran for eight seasons, until it was cancelled in 1990. In 2015, the Chipmunks returned to TV on Nickelodeon’s ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks.
The fourth CGI-animated live-action motion picture, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, premieres in theaters, December 18, 2015. In anticipation, Fox Family Entertainment has released a new trailer. The cast includes Jason Lee as Dave and Bella Thorne as Ashley. Voicing the Chipmunks and Chipettes are Justin Long as Alvin; Matthew Gray Gubler as Simon; Jesse McCartney as Theodore; Kaley Cuoco as Eleanor; Anna Faris as Jeanette; and Christina Applegate as Brittany.
