There won’t be a second season of American Odyssey. To little surprise, NBC has cancelled the dramatic TV series after 13 episodes.
On the American Odyssey TV show, an international cover-up explodes when the lives of a female Special Forces soldier, a disillusioned corporate lawyer, and a political activist from a privileged family unexpectedly collide. The cast includes Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Jim True-Frost, Sadie Sink, Omar Ghazaoui, Nate Mooney, Elena Kampouris, Daniella Pineda, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Treat Williams.
The series had a lackluster debut and the ratings got much worse as the weeks progressed. The 13 installments ended up averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with fewer than three million viewers. The finale aired this past Sunday.
Series creator Adam Armus tweeted, “Thanks to the devoted fans of #AmericanOdyssey. I loved the tweets, the artwork and the emotional support. #odellelives in our [heart]️ always!” and “#AmericanOdyssey is not renewed for next season. The stories live on in here [head] and in here [heart]️! [Bravo] to the fantastic cast, crew and the fans!”
Of the cancellation, executive producer Peter Horton tweeted, “As you all know we have bn canceled. Had we been on cable wld have bn a hit Thx to all of u for bing our audience #thebest #AmericanOdyssey” and then, “#AmericanOdyssey Heartbreaking. But you all have been the best. xo”
Actor Treat Williams wrote, “American Odyssey has been a great experience. Thank you Peter, Adam, Kay,and a lovely cast for a great season. Thank you NBC for the gig.”
What do you think? Did you like the American Odyssey TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled it or renewed the series for a second season?
American Odyssey was a truly wonderful show. The acting and the writing were terrific. It is a shame that NBC cancelled it.
I really enjoyed this show. They left it hanging if she was coming back. I hate when there good shows and they leave it hang.they get conclusion .
Too bad. As others have said, very well written with believable characters. Thoroughly enjoyed the series and hope NBC or another network decides to continue.
I am very disappointed that this show has cancelled. It was the best written , exciting show for people like me who love drama about life situations. The writers and actors on this show should be commended for doing such a fantastic job. The writing was exciting and had a lot of unexpedted twists. The acting was superb with a lot of realistically portrayed emotional scenes. I watch a lot of spy movies and this is the best because of the “people next door” human element. The character development was done very believable. The switching between the three groups of… Read more »
I watch very little television because I don’t like most things on but this show was smart and engaging and the actors were great. The material was timely and believeable.
Please bring it back.
I Soooooooo upset that they cancelled this show. I watched it on Hulu because the time on Sunday just didn’t work for me. I loved it though. I was looking forward to the second season. This is very disappointing.
This was a very good show. Im so sorry that it was cancelled. There are a lot of other shows that need to be cancelled. I really like the character developments. I was hooked from the first show. I was in the military as well. I saw a lot going on when i was deployed in foreign countries. Kudos to the cast and all who worked so hard to produce American Odyssey. So very sad to not have been given opportunity to see the finale.
“Mash ” was in the same boat the first year. CBS stuck with them above what the sponsors thought. The rest was history.
Cancelled? No surprise! If a program doesn’t help the bottom line, Networks like NBC, will forget it. Time slot was worst. Odell lives! Firefly lives! Thanks to the crew for 13 entertaining episodes. Come on Netflix.
P.S. NBC will probably replace it with a program that will draw 50 million viewers like “Dancing with the Idiots” or some reality show.
American Odyssey was a phenomenal show. I cannot believe it has been canceled and the finale not brought to conclusion. As for low ratings perhaps a new time frame would have been better. 10pm on a Sunday is the worse.
I came upon this program accidentally. I watched the program that evening, and became hooked. I was on vacation for the last episode and looked forward to watching the last episode. I am very sorry to find out that there will be no second season. If there were, I would have certainly watched it.
So disappointed
I cannot believe you are cancelling such a fantastic show. Who cares about the 18 – 49 demographics; what about the older folks like me. I am 66. My friend who is 68 also loves, loves, loves this show and last Sunday the finale was pre-empted by NASCAR. I live in
Tampa, Florida. So, when will we see the finale????? Just can’t believe it, what a waste….
Why didn’t you consider a new time slot????? 10 pm Sunday night is the worst…
Great show I looked forward to every episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love this show!! I am a soldier with a little girl myself so I can’t help but put myself in odelle’s place. It touches my heart and I will be very sad to see it go. Everyone I know who watches this loves it as well so I’m shocked they canceled it.
I enjoyed the show very much – got so involved each Sunday night and looked forward to the next episode. So sorry it won’t be returning.
I had not originally watched this show until I was recommended by a friend to watch it and then I told several people about it. I had not even heard about the show on any advertisements. One of the best show that I have seen on TV in awhile I don’t understand the mind set of NBC. If there is not a gay scene on inter-racial component in the show it seems like it gets canned, which is okay but give us a choice.
Great show. Sure wish we could go another
Season. So many unanswered questions!
This show had a HUGE gay scene, did not notice the transgender uncle? and his boyfriend the general?
It was my favorite show, very entertaining and fast paced, i loved the characters and thought it was all well acted. As for gay story lines, there were at least two. There was the lovable transgender male woman and her macho army general lover, both ethnically from Mali and obviously part of the modern culture of that country, not the more traditional Islamic culture which is also well portrayed in the show. The show sympathetically portrayed the clash of cultures when Aslam from the more traditional culture is confronted with the gender identity of his uncle who’s help he seeks… Read more »
