It’s the nightmare NBC’s Awake fans were dreading. NBC has cancelled the show after 13 episodes and one season.
Created by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), Awake revolves around a police detective (Jason Isaacs) who, after being in a horrific car accident, finds that he’s living in two realities. In one, his son perished — in the other, his wife did. The cast also includes Laura Allen, Steve Harris, Dylan Minnette, B. D. Wong, Michaela McManus, Wilmer Valderrama, and Cherry Jones.
The complex drama had an unimpressive debut back on March 1st, registering a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.24 million viewers. NBC had released the pilot episode well in advance so some believed that hurt the premiere ratings.

Theoretically the second episode should have shown signs of growth but it didn’t. Week two dropped 20%. Week three remained stable but subsequent weeks saw additional declines. Last week’s episode hit a new low with a dismal 0.7 rating and just 2.15 million viewers.
This season has averaged a 1.1 rating in the demographic with 3.5 million total viewers. Awake is the third-lowest rated drama on the network, beating only Harry’s Law and The Firm (both of which have been cancelled as well). On our NBC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of shows on the network, Awake has a “D+” grade.
NBC has now cancelled Awake and the series finale is on track to air Thursday, May 24th. While it wasn’t intended as a series finale, Killen has said that he believes the finale is very satisfying.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Awake has been cancelled and won’t be back for a second season? Was the series too complicated for most TV viewers or did it have other problems?

Loved the show. Great actors and writing. Very frustrating to always have good shows cancelled.
This has got to be one of the most superior series that has been presented on tv in the last several years. It is intriguing, stimulates the mind and keeps you on your toes. Nice change from all of the rediculous reality shows that have invaded tv. One can only hope that another network is smart enough to pick this series up, promote it with the campaign it deserves to get the viewership and watch it fly. Great, refreshing series. Such a disappointment.
I can’t believe that this show gets cancelled yet shows like “teen wolf” or Jersey shore get multiple seasons it complete bull ****
I still hope that a cable channel will pick up this show. Perhaps it was too slow-moving for today’s network television? Awake was an amazing show. It even made me respect Wilmer Valderrama (sorry if my spelling is off). I loved Jason Isaacs on Brotherhood and loved him here. I will follow him anywhere and, if someone can’t bring back Awake, I look forward to seeing his next project.
i stopped watching one of my favorite shows on my favorite network to watch awake i liked it .way to go nbc now you go and cancel it as usual lame
Awesome show don’t let it go! Bring it back!
Are You Serious?!?!? Another show I like gets cancelled from NBC! Why does NBC get the good shows and then pulls a stupid ass move and cancels it? I hope another network will bring it back.
And they’re even messing with Community! Another favorite of mine that’s on their stupid network. Firing the creator Dan Harmon! Seriously WTH is wrong with NBC?!? NBC can suck it!
I can’t believe they’d drop such an awesome show. The plot was interesting and well written and the actors were fabulous!
i loved the show very well written always kept your attention I dont understand why all the good shows get cancelled and I wonder how some others make it , I guess they have to be loaded with dirty talk and nudity or sex today to make it..Or really what we need is another reality show like hillbilly hunters or another motorcycle show…NOT! very sad to see it over I really enjoyed it
Awake and The Firm are probably 2 of my favourite television shows right now. How NBC cancels them is beyond me. They finally have a couple great dramas with big name actors and they shoot them dead. Makes me wonder if the people calling the shots at NBC are asleep.
I can’t believe they canceled this show!!! This was the only series I watched!
I was not happy with the finale but there is still a chance to pick it up and run with it in season two. The person above that said there is no chance it could have a second season due to the way the finale was done is just not using their creative brain to think.
Unfortunately, that’s probably the case with most TV viewers. I’m just glad it wasn’t cancelled mid season. Always looked forward to catching Awake but always did it from the DVR which is h0w I watch just about anything.
Dumb, you don’t premier a show mid season and not give it a full chance to develop. I started watching watching the show recently and it is dumb they didn’t give it another “season” to catch on. It is no wonder NBC is in the bottom. They do this every time they have a good show. I found the show interesting. Too bad NBC let us down again.
All people want to do is watch mindless “reality shows”. I’m so sick of crap like the Jersey Shore and The Kardashians getting multiple seasons and spinoffs. It sucks that an interesting show(with an actual plot) like Awake gets canceled.
I’m so bummed!! I thought Awake was great!!
