TV show description:
This offbeat crime procedural is based on the Swedish book series by Leif G. W. Persson. The series follows Detective Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson). He’s an unhealthy, offensive, irascible (also brilliant) detective who is brought back from exile to run the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Crimes Unit (SCU).
Tasked with navigating the city’s most sensitive and serious cases, Backstrom must solve each crime as he tries, and fails, to change his own self-destructive behavior.
Backstrom’s second in command is Detective Nicole Gravely (Genevieve Angelson). Detective John Almond (Dennis Haysbert) is a kind and devoutly religious man who’s been married for 30 years and serves as a pastor on weekends.
Sergent Peter Niedermayer (Kristoffer Polaha) is the unit’s Forensics Liaison and Officer Frank Moto (Page Kennedy) is one of the members of the Special Crimes Unit. Foreign-born civilian Nadia Paquet (Beatrice Rosen) supports the detectives.
Meanwhile, Gregory Valentine (Thomas Dekker) is Backstrom’s decorator and “underworld connection”.
Episode #13 — Rock Bottom
When a Native American is found dead under a bridge on the Wabacooche Indian reservation, Amy’s (guest Sarah Chalke) new boyfriend and Indian Reserve Police Captain, Jesse Rocha (guest Adam Beach), wants in on the case. Backstrom then learns that Indian meth-king Norwest (guest Gregory Cruz), of Cooch County, is a suspect in the case, and he is convinced his father, Cooch County Sheriff Blue Backstrom (guest Robert Forster), knows about Norwest’s drug dealings, leaving Backstrom to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, in order to keep his job with the S.C.U., Backstrom must impress Dr. Deb (guest Rizwan Manji).
First aired: April 30, 2015.
What do you think? Do you like the Backstrom TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
It was one of only afew shows that was different and entertaining enough to watch. Please bring it back.
PissedPissed smdh
I am truly sorry to hear that “Backstrom” was cancelled. My cable company offers “on demand” and that’s how I got started watching it. Had not heard about the show and saw the name “Backstrom” on the list. Was curious and started watching and absolutely loved it The show was different from other shows and I loved Backstrom’s rude, crude and sarcastic comments. The actors in the show were great! Look, they kept “House” on for years so I say they should have given “Backstrom” a fair and better chance.
Hopefully it will show up on netflix like Longmire
I never respond to stuff like this because I feel like no one listens anyway but had to say something here in the hope that maybe someone at fox will pay attention backstrom was really getting good it was one of the few shows that I made a point to watch live instead of later on my dvr I really hope u guys change your mind and give this show another chance everyone I told about it became fans of the show
I liked Backstrom—it had a different approach but I enjoyed watching it. Any chance it could come back on air?
I love love Backstrom, don’t take it away. I was just looking to see when it would be coming on and was disappointed to hear it was cancelled. I was bored with the other shows and just happened upon this show and watched all the shows until I could get caught up to date. I wanted more. Its different and edgy and I like his brashness it seems real. I love the team that surrounds him as well and they don’t seem to mind his brashness. It seems they have such a respect for his talent at solving crimes that… Read more »
this pisses me off. was looking forward to this season premiere. I NEVER missed an episode. WTF, Fox??? Give it a freaking chance!!!
ditto
I don’t watch a lot of TV — 4 shows last season: blacklist, Big Bang theory, scorpion, and backstrom. Think it’s a travesty to not give it a second season. Great story line — great cast. Looking forward to next season and was watching the reruns
same thing here, was awaiting this and “Better Call Saul”. Hope they don’t cancel that one too.
Both my husband and I LOVED Backstrom and looked forward to it every week. Please bring it back this fall.
I cant believe Backstrom and Battle Creek were not renewed. The characters and writing were great. Not your typical cop shows,
best show ever. fox sucks
I have a feeling that it wasn’t PC enough for some focus group, it was too real and not enough fake portrayal of “the perfectable man” that the progressive mind sees in us.
As a “progressive” whatever that means (which is another conversation – though if it means “not right wing conservative, that fits), i LOVE Rainn Wilson’s refreshing portrayal of an irredemable genius crime-solver and was eagerly awaiting season 2.
Fox is a series killer… remember the quirky “The Tick?” Hilarious, campy, off the wall corny and a ton of fun. Also squashed after one season. There are so many….Firefly for one – another casualty of Fox’s inability to recognize a cult gem in the raw.
Backstrom was one of the best TV shows ever. I can’t believe it is being canceled over some of the other lame ones that got renewed. This show needs to be renewed. It is to great to be cancelled!
So true, I am more than overwhelmed by the dreck that is out there. Another show about the Kardashian-like air heads that smother the TV landscape and yet they cannot find time to present programing that appeals to thinking, mature audiences. It says more about the nature of hollywood than anything else.
I agree, I’m sick to death of all the crap that is out there!! Hollywood, grow a brain!!
this was one of the more distinct and entertaining programs, not the usual slop that passes as drama or comedy. Why was it cancelled. perhaps the audience wasn’t smart enough to know good and ironic work when they see it.
my mother hooked me on to BACKSTROM and i never missed an episode after that. what a buck of peckerheads to cancel such an interesting show. I am not one to sit and watch mainstream TV; usually i waited til it came out on dvd, but BACKSTROM (& FOREVER) were different.
