Between the competition from other channels and start time delays due to sports programming overruns, CBS has some real challenges on Sunday nights, particularly in the 10pm timeslot. Both The Mentalist (ended) and CSI (possibly cancelled) struggled this season. How’s newcomer Battle Creek been doing? Will it be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The series got off to a poor start with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. That was a lower demo number than either CSI or Mentalist had hit this season. The viewership was pretty bad for a CBS show too.
In week two, the ratings for Battle Creek fell to a 0.83 in the demo with 6.93 million, a decline of 17% and 13% respectively. The numbers have gotten even worse in subsequent weeks — falling as low as a 0.7 rating and 5.58 million viewers.
Based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be any reason for CBS to renew Battle Creek for a second season. The numbers are just too low.
On the positive side, there are four episodes left after tonight’s airing. It looks like the network will let them air with the finale currently set for May 24th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show on CBS? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Is it a better show than what the ratings seem to indicate?
Love the show hope it gets another chance!
please please, renew Battle Creek. We love it here in the Philippines!! Please please CBS renew Battle Creek!!!
please please renew battle creek. we love it here in the Philippines. please CBS, renew Battle Creek!!!
Keep it going! Great show!
Hope CBS changes its mind and keeps Battle Creek. It just needs more time (or a better time slot.) Like the characters, especially Russ.
Please renew Battle Creek. It has just hit it’s stride and is getting better by the week. There are far worse shows to cancel. Maybe they could move it to USA like they did for Psyche, another great show that just needed a season to mature.
I’d like to show on Sunday night to be CSI cyber Battle Creek also if it was my choice I would rather have CSI cyber maybe come find another time slot for battle creek
Please renew this show. It’s got great acting, great writing!
My husband and I love the show! Great cast, funny with great story lines. Who makes these decisions!?z
The network CBS makes this decision. I believe if enough of us wrote in we could possibly change their minds! It certainly is worth a try and I do hope that everyone that has posted or is reading the comments will click on the link or go directly to the CBS webpage, (category >> BATTLE CREEK) and tell them how you feel!
The time slot STUNK and lack of advertising DEMANDS that this show gets a 2nd season with a better time slot!! Click on the link and WRITE!!!!

Love this show. Our new favorite. So shocked at the talk of canceling it. Please keep it going! !!
My comments to CBS feedback included one suggesting that viewers need to give the show time to grow on them. (I didn’t get hooked until during the third episode. That tension in Russ and Milt’s relationship takes a little getting used to.) It deserves another chance to ‘find’ an audience by having a slot on the summer schedule. Then again, the audience deserves a better ‘welcome’ mat laid out than the current theme song. Granted that something akin to the “Magnum P.I.” theme doesn’t match the tone of “Battle Creek” but the producers could do considerably better. The current theme… Read more »
I love the show, and I think that they should keep it going. A lot of shows didn’t have many numbers going but they kept at it to keep it going. Now they are in there 6th or more season.
Please renew this show. I love Russ!
I commented earlier when the non-renewal was announced. I like this show a lot, for many of the same reasons that others have posted. Hope CBS listens.
Keep it, CBS! We need good shows like this to offset reality TV!
