Between the competition from other channels and start time delays due to sports programming overruns, CBS has some real challenges on Sunday nights, particularly in the 10pm timeslot. Both The Mentalist (ended) and CSI (possibly cancelled) struggled this season. How’s newcomer Battle Creek been doing? Will it be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The series got off to a poor start with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. That was a lower demo number than either CSI or Mentalist had hit this season. The viewership was pretty bad for a CBS show too.
In week two, the ratings for Battle Creek fell to a 0.83 in the demo with 6.93 million, a decline of 17% and 13% respectively. The numbers have gotten even worse in subsequent weeks — falling as low as a 0.7 rating and 5.58 million viewers.
Based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be any reason for CBS to renew Battle Creek for a second season. The numbers are just too low.
On the positive side, there are four episodes left after tonight’s airing. It looks like the network will let them air with the finale currently set for May 24th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show on CBS? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Is it a better show than what the ratings seem to indicate?
I agree. Please CBS bring Battle Creek back. Such a good show & different from most TV crime shows, due to the unique humor between Milt & Russ. I find the show to have interesting story lines & cast. It shcertainly
ould have had more episodes & better night & time to suceed.
Please keep Battle Creek on. Do not cancel. We enjoy this show.
Please keep “Battle Creek” on the air. I have enjoyed every episode. I fine the chemistry between the mismatch characters refreshing and amusing.
I would like to see another season of Battle Creek!
We have been avid viewers of “Battle Creek” since its’ debut. We find the series to be intelligent, insightful to the human condition, witty, humorous and most of all, well written and the ensemble cast is wonderful.
We are extremely disappointed to see this series cancelled. Maybe a smarter network will see the value and promise in this series and pick it up.
Please, don’t cancel this show…even if the last episode did kindof wrap everything up. My husband and I really like this show. Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters are great together. Writing is great, plots make sense, etc. You have just put it on at a deadly time on SUNDAY NIGHT!!! Please, consider cancelling CSI: Cyber if you HAVE to cancel something. that show doesn’t make sense and the acting is terrible!!!!
Don’t take Battle Creek off the air. We don’t need another criminal minds
Don’t take Batle Creek off!!!!!!! Don’t need another criminal minds!
I have really enjoyed Battle Creek and feel like it was really starting to hit it’s stride! TV shows don’t get enough time to develop fully before they are cancelled these days. While I’m a diehard Josh Dumel fan, I thought the ensemble cast had good chemistry and the anst between the two main characters brought an interesting opportunity for character and story development.
Please don’t cancel this show. Great cast. Good writing. Down to earth.
Don’t take my favorite new show off the air.
Please keep Battle Creek on the air for next season. It is my favorite new show.
Great show! Please don’t cancel!
Please keep Battle Creek on the air. The interplay of the actors is just great and this show should remain on the air.
Please keep Battle Creek on the air. I love the interplay of the actors and especially love Dean Winters.
Dean just MAKES this show work. He IS MAYHEM!!! PLEASE, KEEP IT ON.
