Though The Big Bang Theory continues to be one of the highest-rated TV shows on network television, the ratings have been declining year after year. The show has also become more and more expensive to produce. While the sitcom surely won’t be cancelled by CBS, could this end up being the last season? Or, are we essentially guaranteed to see an 11th season for 2017-18? Stay tuned.
The Big Bang Theory revolves around a group of brilliant but socially-challenged scientists and they’ve come a long way. Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) have finally gotten married. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) have taken their relationship to the next level. Howard (Simon Helberg) and his wife, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), are expecting their first child. And Rajesh (Kunal Nayyar), he hasn’t quite settled down just yet.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/12 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The ninth season of The Big Bang Theory averaged a 3.73 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 15.21 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Big Bang Theory TV series? Do you expect it to continue beyond season 12, or end there?
3/20 update: The Big Bang Theory has been renewed for season 11 and season 12. Details here.
My favorite show!!!! One of the best comedy’s! It is not stupid or silly but very funny.
Maybe if CBS would stop changing the day and time of the show people would know when it’s on.
I hope Kaley does not pull a Farrah Fawcett and leave the show with big dreams of a movie caree., It didn’t happen for Farrah and she was a wayyyy bigger star. I think they need to do season 11 to wrap up the story lines then call it quits.
TBBT is one of the only shows that hasn’t lost it’s freshness throughout the years. Still my favorite
Couldn’t agree less. The first 5 seasons were amazing. The 6th had both great and lame parts. 7 and onwards – god damn nosedive
I love this show it makes me laugh so hard and I love that the original people are still on the show. I cannot do without Big Bang Theory. I heard some rumors that they were going to cancel it because Penny lost some weight and they wanted her to gain weight I sure hope you are not making the same mistake as you did with Mike and Molly. I love that show as well.
Please don’t cancel BBT. We’ve waited too long for the relationships to evolve. At least give us 2 more seasons to bring storyline to a fair ending.
We love the big bang. We watch the old episodes over and over. What a great escape from our busy schedule. We look forward to each new episode.
We would be divistated if it got cancelled.
The show is merely running on fumes (story line only). Laughter is gone, way overpaid cast (Jim, Johnny, Kaley). Time to move on CBS. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
I love Big Bang Theory. It’s the best show there is! I think it’s far from being time to end. I’m sure there’s nothing better to take its place! The ratings could be down because they’ve flipped it back and forth all season. You never knew what night it was going to be on. Give it a good, permanent spot and it will be Just Fine. Please don’t take the best show there is left!!
This is THE BEST show in TV
Best show on TV by far!! My wife and I watch it all the time. With the marvelous wonder of streaming, once or twice a year we go back and start from season 1 episode 1 and watch it all the way through. Never get tired of it!!
With the election of an anti-science administration, anything, even a comedy, which keeps scientists in the public mind in a positive light is going to be important to combat the sink back into superstition and intolerance with which we are threatened. Four more years, at least.
Keep TBBT for at least 1 more year! I think that the reason why there are less TV sets watching this great show is because there are viewing parties…there are 9 people who watch this show at my house…if not, it would be 4 tv sets…
Is one of this group a Nielsen family? If not, then you could have the entire neighborhood at your house and it wouldn’t matter. They don’t count every single person with a TV set. Only people that are Nielsen families get counted.
This show is the best thing too happen too tv in years. I watch it all the time either the new episodes or reruns and not once been bored watching it! Canceling this show after 10 seasons would be dumbest thing anyone has every thought of when there are still lots of ideas to continue making a great programe!
I have been watching this show for years and love it and the reruns!!
