Though The Big Bang Theory continues to be one of the highest-rated TV shows on network television, the ratings have been declining year after year. The show has also become more and more expensive to produce. While the sitcom surely won’t be cancelled by CBS, could this end up being the last season? Or, are we essentially guaranteed to see an 11th season for 2017-18? Stay tuned.
The Big Bang Theory revolves around a group of brilliant but socially-challenged scientists and they’ve come a long way. Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) have finally gotten married. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) have taken their relationship to the next level. Howard (Simon Helberg) and his wife, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), are expecting their first child. And Rajesh (Kunal Nayyar), he hasn’t quite settled down just yet.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/12 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The ninth season of The Big Bang Theory averaged a 3.73 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 15.21 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Big Bang Theory TV series? Do you expect it to continue beyond season 12, or end there?
3/20 update: The Big Bang Theory has been renewed for season 11 and season 12. Details here.
Absolutely brilliant, superb acting, mesmerizing storylines. I came late to this comedy and as a family we watched all 10 series. If you are fed up with this programme you need an injection of humour, more series please!
Just watched season 10 finale. OMG! The best finale ever. I thought my heart was going to jump out of my body. Ecstatic over the ending. Thumbs up to writers and actors. I never watched the show in the beginning, but have caught up on reruns and now can’t wait for the weekly new shows besides watching reruns daily. Glad it’s renewed for a couple more seasons.
I stopped watching it in April. It was hilarious until 2 or 3 years ago, but now I’m lucky to get 1 or 2 laughs out of any episode. And the laugh track for obviously unfunny stuff makes it unbearable.
FayeVerte’s summed it up nicely. I still think it is way above any other comedy on the air/and most other shows, period. Query: why do shows with half the audience keep getting the awards?, especially some , well, not-so-good shows?
Who really picks the “winners”?
fayeVerte summed it up quite nicely!! I could watch it forever!
it was the Most Watched Show in 2016, so they are still doing something right. Query: why do shows with half the audience keep winning the prizes?? Makes you wonder who “picks” the winners !?!?!
Big Banmg rules !!!
Hey, I love TBBT. It’s true that the earlier seasons had a wonderfully quirky quality that’s dispersed over time, but it’s remained the funniest sitCom on network tv. However, everything has a lifespan. After ten seasons, it might be time to wrap up the storylines and have a decent finale. It’s a good alternative to two more possibly weak seasons and an end that will leave a bad taste in the mouth. Besides, it will live on forever in syndication.
IF CBS WONTS TO STAY # ONE THEY WILL RENEW IT’S THE ONLY COMEDY WE WATCH WE EVEN WATCH RERUNS EVERYDAY HOPE IT STAYS ON FOR MANY YEARS
I stopped watching when Simon Helberg decided to become political.
My family, friends, and I have also stopped watching for the same reason.
MUST renew. PLEASE!!! This is one of the few comedies on television that I consistently laugh out loud at… even the reruns!
I would hate to see this show end. It’s one of the few that is still enjoyable to watch unlike so many stupid reality shows.
I firmly believe this is one of the few items on TV worth watching. I am a white collar baby boomer that enjoys watching Big Bang, Outdoor man, and some older reruns…it’s one of the few I can watch with my family.
TBBT is BY FAR my favorite show on tv, and maybe my favorite show OF ALL TIME… but I think season 10 should be the last.
This is one of the best comedies on TV! It’s the “Friends” of today.
The program needs more time to find an audience. It is well written with great new technology elements!! Love, love this show!!!!
Find an audience? Its been the top comedy series for over six years! I think it’s already found an audience.
Needs more time for audience to catch up with CBS schedule changes. Pick a night and leave it there!
This is by far my favorite show. Not only do I not miss a new episode on CBS but always watch reruns on TBS or any other channel it’s on. CBS will have a hard time finding a show to replace it that would compare.
