As expected, ABC has cancelled their summer series Black Box after one season of 13 episodes, reports EW.
Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The series debuted in late April to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. It was a mediocre start for the dramatic series and the numbers got progressively worse as new episodes were released. Towards the end of its 13 episode run, Black Box dropped to a 0.6 demo rating with 3.72 million.
The last two episodes aired on July 24th, leaving the main character’s professional fate up in the air.
What do you think? Did you like the Black Box series? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on?
I too loved this show once I finally found it. I am so sorry it has been cancelled. Hope ABC will reconsider. What can we do?
We can write to the other networks requesting that they pick up “Black Box”…and refer them to this website with all of our comments. If enough people write into NBC or other networks, maybe they will listen and put it back on the air! It is worth a try to get it back if ABC isn’t going to renew it.
Oh gee, i am so upset about losing this show. The acting was suburb and the characters were so real in this world today. What a shame, ABC, …….. Email me if there is a petition, i will be the first to sign..
loved the show. I think time slot was a problem.. I Dvr’d the first season to watch at the end of the TV season. loved watching all episodes back to back. I think a different time and day would’ve helped with more advertisement of the character’s personal lives and not just focus on the CUBE parts which I think pushed many away as they could not relate to a neurologically based show leaving some to feel intimidated.
I was devastated that you canceled the show..I have a grandaughter who is very intelligent and did two years at a good college . But since she was16 she was diagnosed with bi-polar and her condition got the better of her. Black box allowed me to see what going on inside my grandaughter. I wish you would put it back on because so many families suffer with this disorder diagnosed and un diagnosed Please reconsider. A loving grandmother
This show has it all – a talented cast, smart writing & a brilliant premise. I looked forward to each episode, and am stunned that ABC would cancel this gem. You peopke don’t understand what a winner you had…..it only needed a little more time & it would’ve taken off. Shame on you, ABC.
I LOVED THE SHOW! If there was more advertisement I do believe they would have captured more of an audience.
I loved the plot of the story.. the Brain and how her Bi Polar issues affected her every day life in work and in love. Love the story line of her daughter being brought up by her brother.
Really wish there was more attention brought to the program in order to capture more of an audience.
Nooooo!!! Finally a show that showcases mental Illness in an interesting way and they cancel it?! This was such a good show and had an eye opening perspective that we need. I loved catching up w my hulu queue, did the polls include Hulu or other internet watchers? How do we get it back?? 🙁
Oh my gosh!! I am so mad!!! My husband is bipolar and this show taught me a lot about what he is going through everyday. He was so amazed at how spot on all of the highs and lows are. I never understood what he would go through when he was on a high or his very very lows until I watched this. This show was one of my favorites ever!!! I cannot believe it has been canceled. This sucks!!!
I was absolutely in love with this show! I am a Psychology student at UCF and I have Bi Polar disorder! This show gave me the inspiration to take my BS to a Doctorate! I am so sad to hear that they cancelled it! I didn’t see any advertising for it really, I bet if they did a heck of a lot more advertising they would have a HIT series! The actors are STUPENDOUS and bring life to their characters well! Please bring it back, take your poll again after your team gets together and gives it a real advertisement… Read more »
No!!!! Please bring this show back! At least fix the cliffhanger! This show was great, it tapped into something that people truly battle every day. Annoyed 🙁
I really like the show and was hoping for a second season!!!!!
This was the best show after blacklist. Please bring it back. I could relate to Dr. Black. I even switched my days at work so I could watch Blackbox. Try again. I don’t think it was promoted or advertised as much as it should of been. Bring It Back!
I can not believe this show has been cancelled!! I was so excited to have a good and interesting series to watch when many of my favs are on hiatus. I even had my mom and a couple of friends following the show and now we are all bummed. If anyone knows if it gets picked up by another network or Netflix, please post.
Nooooo. I really liked this show. I think it should have been advertised more so people could find out about it. I just went online to see when the new episodes were starting n only seen its being canceled. So upseting.
Funny, I was doing the same thing when I found out they had cancelled
BLACK BOX WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW. WHAT HAPPENED??? WHO MADE THAT DECISION? Even the music – episode was featured as really happening in Mt Sinai – it was not only ahead but actually happening now! What could possible be more fascinating than the brain? WHAT?? I AM BEGGING ALL PRODUCERS BRING BACK THE SHOW. The plots are feasible, accurate and the acting brilliant. The sub-plot – the brother and sister-in-law – was again believable and intriguing. The moment the daughter snaps the rubberband – the tell of future difficulties for Esme is brilliant. I couldn’t wait to see SEASON 2.… Read more »
I absolutely loved this show! It’s better than half the **** they put on TV now anyways. Better advertising and marketing efforts should have been made. Please bring the show back!
