Last year, even though the Black-ish TV show on ABC continued its downward slide in the Nielsen ratings, it still wasn’t cancelled. Now that it’s back for its fifth season, during which it will mark its 100th episode, is this family comedy series on its way out the door, or will the Alphabet Network keep it around a while longer? Will Black-ish be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC sitcom, Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Peter Mackenzie, Jenifer Lewis, Deon Cole, and Laurence Fishburne. Dre (Anderson) and Rainbow (Ross) Johnson want to give their children the best, and they’re determined that best will include a strong sense of cultural identity and respect for the past, as their foundation for a bright future. Season five kicks off with the Johnsons dropping Junior (Scribner) off at college, but they soon learn he has other ideas.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The fourth season of Black-ish averaged a 1.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.270 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Black-ish TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season on ABC?
5/2/19 update: ABC has renewed the Black-ish TV show for a sixth season.
Too much preaching. And Anthony Anderson ‘s support of Jussie Smollett doesn’t help.
The show isn’t funny, it’s a bit racist and too political.
Ratings are terrible, I can’t understand how other shows with better ratings were canceled but this one continues to air
Used to like it until they got in to politics 2 season’s ago
I quit watching this show a while back. Tried to watch again but “S5 E20 Good in the ‘Hood” is the last one I’ll watch. This father is teaching his children they should be uncomfortable anywhere they are a minority. That is wrong on so many levels. The show is just not a comedy anymore. It’s a soapbox for spewing hatred and division. When will people understand we are all one race, the human race.
ok…first off, he is teaching them that they shouldn’t back down from other minority♀️. they want them to feel safe and empowered
Love the show…why no sound?….
I’m done with the show. The Neighborhood has taken over. Can’t even finish the season. Deleting from recording list. Humor is gone, might as well watch the news and all the protesters.
It used to be hilarious. I could identify with Ruby. Now it’s just about social justice. I get enough of that from the news. Tonight it’s about identity politics and gender neutrality. What the heck? Won’t even watch this week. They were a successful show and then got full of themselves, trying to “preach it”. They’re down in ratings because the white viewer lost the comedy.
I absolutely love this show, writings, actors and I think the show is a should be watched show. I’m still salty that one episode was removed.
*gasp* what episode?!?
The history lessons turned me off. Is it a comedy? Or a documentary? The divorce episodes, too. The show lost its identity. Was so good. Now it is a PC Lesson.
Could not agree more, was a regular show we watched now it is just a lecture every week. What I do not understand is the ratings are horrible how does it stay on the air?
Yes I love the show
