Positive thinking certainly didn’t help NBC’s new reality series, Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, in the ratings. The TV show’s been pulled after just two episodes.
In Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, self-help master Tony Robbins seeks to help ordinary people overcome big challenges so that they can begin living their lives to their true potential.
The first episode of Breakthrough got off to a very poor start with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and only 3.12 million viewers. That put the debut in fourth place in both areas.
This week’s installment attracted about the same in the demo but total viewership fell to 2.76 million viewers. How low could the ratings go?

We won’t get to find out. NBC has pulled Breakthrough effective immediately. They’ve replaced it with repeats of Minute to Win It for the foreseeable future.
This leaves four episodes of Breakthrough on the shelf, unaired. The network hasn’t made any indication that they’ll burn off the remaining installments. There is no way that NBC will be ordering any more episodes and the show’s been confirmed as cancelled.
What do you think? Did you like Breakthrough with Tony Robbins? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed in attracting more viewers?

I also am extremely disappointed in NBC for canceling this show. Tony Robbins is an excellent teacher and show what challenges people can meet with the right encouragement. He finds ways to have people accomplish many things they never knew they could. Once they get on a roll and realize what they can do they can be unstoppable. Hope NBC reconsiders this decision.
I can’t believe they took it off, but im not surprised. Our country so needs Tony’s work! I had the pleasure 20 years ago to be on his staff and my life has never been the same. This man is THE #1 Peak Performance Geru in the world…and NBC replaces him with “Minute to Win It”?????… They need to give it some time…put it on Sunday night or Friday night…just put it back on….He is the best and we can get tremendous value from a man who has coached the world’s best of the best!!!!
I tuned in to watch the show too, I even had it on my calendar at work. I actually planned my night around watching the show, and bam 8pm and I couldn’t find the show anywhere, no announcment, nothing. That’s pretty crummy to do to the viewing, growing viewing, audiance. Have we become so impatient that a show can’t even be granted a season to build an audience. It was inspiring and motivating, two things I definitely need. But no, intelligent tv is not supported, instead shows like jersey shore, bad girls, and those aweful rich, b****h, houeswives with nothing… Read more »
I feel angry that Breakthrough was not given a fair shot. NBC did a poor job of promoting the show and didn’t give it time to mature. I hope another network has the sense to pick it up.
I was so disappointed when I heard that Breakthrough was cancelled! My wife and I went crazy looking for the right channel last night, then we thought we had the wrong night. They didn’t even give it chance! The show was so encouraging and my wife and I REALLY looked forward to it! I am a long time fan of Tony Robbins and will miss not seeing him!
I don’t think NBC gave it a chance! So000 disappointed!!!!
The two episodes aired were most certainly inspirational, motivational, and outright heartwarming. Yet, I do have to ask how many ordinary people faced with physically, emotionally, and fiancially overwhelming challenges of such magnitude can realistically relate to or apply the methods offered and succeed in overcoming their tragedies.
I am shocked! Great Show Tony! It just goes to show us that the media does not want the masses to have hope! Tony, please do your best to sell it to another station and let us know somehow so we can see it!
Tried to email NBC but they put you through a massive survey in order to send a comment regarding one of their shows…
I found out about the show from a friend and watched the first episode on the on-demand channel. I was looking forward to watching the show last night, but in its place was the usual brainless, demeaning television that is becoming the norm. How do the networks come up with their ratings anyway? Do they just survey the couch potato idiots or do they only care about what teenagers want to watch? I can’t help but be reminded of the Batman movie where Jim Carey played the Riddler and invented a box that sat on people’s TVs to suck out… Read more »
I think this is a travesty! Minute to Win It in place of world renowned inspirational teacher Tony Robbins? Really?! What’s wrong with people?
I too was very disappointed to learn that NBC canceled the show after only two episodes. I agree with an earlier comment that NBC really did not promote the show. It is sad because we really do need a show like this. Unfortunately, Americans today do not really want to be inspired & motivated. That might be too scary and risky. Better to watch mindless sitcoms & trashy reality shows than to examine your life and try to make it better using Tony’s ideas. I for one, am extremely saddened that this show was canceled so quickly.
What a bummer! Just when a TV show with substance, arrives on primetime television. It gets gonged? Are the network people crazy? I found this show by randomly flipping the channel. There was no lead promotions or advertising to gather enough viewers! Yet, I was glued to the substance of the stories, the drama, and the life lessons! It was also up against a successful “America’s Got Talent” show. I think NBC should give it another shot or at least let the other episodes be seen somewhere on a different time slot. The stuntman in all the challenges were the… Read more »
I’m very upset that the show has been cancelled. I watched the very first episode and was so inspired. I couldn’t wait to get on the phone and tell everyone I knew to tune in. As soon as I did all my friends watched the first episode online and then watched the 2nd episode. I couldn’t believe when I went to tune into tuesday night for the 3rd show and couldn’t find it anymore. Please bring the show back!!! This is what we as a nation need a little pick me up as well as inspiration.
Thank You,
Tiffany
I am disappointed. I loved it!
Part of the issue was timeslot – a TUESDAY??? Plus, NBC did not promote. I only new about it from Robbins Research postings. And then a few promos leading up to the first episodes.
Some of the content was a little more than viewers could relate to; however, for TV it is hard to take Tony’s concepts and do it in a small way… to really visualize it likely had to be that dramatic. The problem with that is how do you relate it to what you can do everyday?
NBC should give this show some time.
I saw last week’s episode while visiting friends and loved it! I called several people to tune in this week and then couldn’t find it. Even called Comcast to see what happened, but they knew nothing. It would probably take more than 2 episodes to get the word out, don’t ya think? By the fourth one the ratings would start going up. This is the kind of TV show we need. I don’t ever watch TV – except news and maybe American Idol. It’s mostly garbage or so predictable I can’t bear it. This was a phenomenal show and I… Read more »
