Positive thinking certainly didn’t help NBC’s new reality series, Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, in the ratings. The TV show’s been pulled after just two episodes.
In Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, self-help master Tony Robbins seeks to help ordinary people overcome big challenges so that they can begin living their lives to their true potential.
The first episode of Breakthrough got off to a very poor start with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and only 3.12 million viewers. That put the debut in fourth place in both areas.
This week’s installment attracted about the same in the demo but total viewership fell to 2.76 million viewers. How low could the ratings go?

We won’t get to find out. NBC has pulled Breakthrough effective immediately. They’ve replaced it with repeats of Minute to Win It for the foreseeable future.
This leaves four episodes of Breakthrough on the shelf, unaired. The network hasn’t made any indication that they’ll burn off the remaining installments. There is no way that NBC will be ordering any more episodes and the show’s been confirmed as cancelled.
What do you think? Did you like Breakthrough with Tony Robbins? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed in attracting more viewers?

BRING “BREAKTHROUGH” BACK!!!
It’s ok, you made a small booboo and under promoted an amazing show. Fix it by bringing “BREAKTHROUGH” BACK!
This must have been so under promoted, since everyone I have spoke to loved the show and others were asking why they could not find it on the TV. Now promote it and bring it back. Fix this soon please, we love this show and are looking forward to it’s return.

This just goes to show that for all the brains Tony tells people he has, he’s an idiot. He has made his money on the research of others all these years. Tony learned all he knows from Jim Rohn a popular motivational speaker. He has never been a trained doctor, psychologists, psychiatrists, or any form of professional mental health professional – that has the ability to give sound peer reviewed/ accepted legal advise. In short, he’s a snake oil salesman who tell people to “Go for it” without knowing or understanding the dynamics of behavior and relationships as taught by… Read more »
BRING “BREAKTHROUGH” BACK! If it’s not NBC that brings back the show, hopefully one of the other networks will. The 2 shows I saw were inspirational! I told lots of people about the show and where to look for it. Now they won’t be able to find it. How can you pull a show after 2 episodes! After seeing so much crap and self-indulgance on other “reality shows”, I was so happy to see a reality show that dealt with real problems, fears, and joys that weren’t scripted with fake fighting or other sensationalism to bring up ratings. Per the… Read more »
Add me to the list of disappointed fans! I find Tony’s commitment to people unmatched in the world around us; And it immediately gets stifled, before having a chance to bloom.
You want people to watch network television again!? Keep shows like this! Shows that challenge the mind and spirit, and deliver on the promise that there is a better way than the way we’ve been taught. Shows that support positive actions, innovation, and creativity.
That’s what Americans need! A little inspiration can go a long way.
Oh wait, let’s just watch another crime drama. Shame. Shame. NBC.
I love that show what is wrong with NBC. It is very heart wrencing. It is good helpful therapy.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
At this very depressing time in this country, this was just what we all needed (a little hope). It would truly inspire many of us that life is not as bad as it sometimes seems. There is so much junk on TV, that we were truly shocked that this GREAT & INSPIRATIONAL show would be cancelled.
I truly hate that everything always has to come down to the all mighty dollar, instead of doing something good for people.
This is unbelievable to me. Everyone I know watched the show. Look at all the facebook entries!! Everyone loved it!!
Total BULL.
There is more to this story than they are telling us right now
I was so disappointed to sit down on Tuesday night to watch Breakthrough only to discover it has already been canceled. I thought the show was downright useful and inspirational. I don’t like shows that glorify bad behavior. Tony Robbins had a great show.
What a joke! It actually doesn’t surprise me, though, since America isn’t ready to learn how messed up it (we) really are— self-absorbed, out of shape physically and emotionally, and, obviously, not ready to face ourselves. Ironic that the show got pulled because of poor ratings (which equals poor financial return) when if you know Tony and what he teaches, money is what we focus too much of our efforts on and is why we are falling apart in every other aspect of our lives. Godspeed to Tony Robbins. I truly believe that he is a prophet, someone who could… Read more »
I don’t think they did enough marketing…I read about it online on a friends page…so I didn’t start watching until the 2nd episode…otherwise I wouldn’t have even known about it…Please bring it back…I loved it!
The cancelling of this show is an absolute shame. At last there was something on prime time TV that actually had value; that helped and touched people. NBC, you did this show a grave disservice. Why didn’t you have the balls to create an advertising campaign that is as arresting and thought provoking as this show is?
It was great you commissioned it but think it through next time. And you’ve left millions of disappointed people in your wake.
We are shocked that Breakthrough has been cancelled. Finally, there was a program that helps people get out of the patterns that create misery, confusion and despair in their lives. The couples were so honest and real that all of us can see ourselves. We can learn from their struggle and their journey through Tony Robbins’ challenges. What a sad commentary for our society that this show was cancelled but other reality shows that show the lowest behaviour and maturity levels of our society are popular and thriving on television. For SHAME. What a loss!! I want to see Breakthrough… Read more »
We loved the show, our relationship used the wisdom of “Creating Everlasting Love” by Tony. This show was and is needed for all, however I agree with a prior comment that “they” the stations, government etc. don’t want everyone to have solutions to their problems. That would be a major job problem for all kinds of people if you think about it. So, this goes the way of Jericho… I say let us send the NUTS and see if they’ll make a “Breakthrough” of their own! Perhaps we need to deframe and reframe them for the awesome giving soul of… Read more »
Are you serious NBC?! Unless this is a marketing ploy to stir up talk about the new show (which makes sense), I don’t see why you’d cancel it after one show. It needs a little time to build a large following — and it will! Breakthrough has a great concept and is full of lifes lessons that needs to be shown in today’s world. This is reality! The media loves to promote garbage and wouldn’t recognize a great show if it bit them in the butt! Do some advertising and bring the show back… Tony Robbins will not dissapoint!
