In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.
What do you think? Are you sad to hear that Brothers & Sisters won’t be back for season six? Was it time for the series to end?

I agree with the previous comment. It is an intelligent, real show that has every emotion known to man in every episode – it is all about life and every person who watched it could identify with someone every week.
I am disappointed and will now NOT watch Desperate Housewives ever again becuase I think it is inferior compared to Brothers & Sisters. Boycotting ABC on Sunday Nights forever!
incredibly dissapointed – and not even given the chance to properly wrap up.
AWW COME ON MAN REALLY..they took away all the good clean family shows ,and leave the filthy ones that I FORBID my children to watch( family guy, american dad, simpsons).
just goes to show the way the world is going, the pruducers don’t know sqat about what the people like!!!! sham on the producers/abc for letting this happen!!!!
PUT BROTHERS AND SISTERS BACK ON!!!!!
I don’t know what’s the matter with these network people. It seems that whenever there’s an intelligent show without murders, violence and car chases, it gets cancelled. I know t.v. is a ratings game, but I agree with the person above who suggested they might try new writers before just flushing the whole thing down the toilet. I’ve certainly seen other shows go thru slower periods and not get cancelled. I expect this one would have rallied again. I hope the replacement show is not yet another cop show or warmed over remake of an old show. I, for one,… Read more »
Very disappointed! The story lines have been getting better and could have easily been built upon for another season. I just PRAY they do NOT replace it with ANOTHER reality show!
So disappointing, especially because with a series finale without any fanfare, I didn’t get to say goodbye to characters who had adult trials and tribulations I related to and found real and plausible. That’s a void in my Sunday night. Goodbye Walkers!
CAN NOT BELIEVE IT, IT HAS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOW SINCE THE BEGINNING………….
I am sad that they are canceling Brother’s and Sister’s. I enjoyed the show better than
Desperate Housewives. I do not think it should be cancelled. Maybe it should be put on
at a different time slot.
I can’t imagine what these execs are doing when they are determining a show’s fate. I am so glad they have ZERO consideration for fans of any show. Do I think the show was past its prime, sure, but does ABC not care enough about their viewers to allow the writers to incorporate a proper series finale. If I were an ABC exec, I would be happy to get big money to not care about my viewers.
Please don’t talk to me. I am in mourning.
I love watching this show. It is nice to see a family series on TV for a change. It covered all topics in the media in an adult manner. ABC has made a poor decision here for sure. Hopefully a different network picks up the series and shows ABC the error they have made. Stupid ntetwork Execs………
If the ratings were dropping last season and again this season, maybe they should have replaced the writers with new blood.
I didn’t watch the first season. My siter filled me in on everything that went on during that first season. I have watched Brothers and Sisters since season two and I have enjoyed it.
Very disappointed, if anything I thought the show was getting better
Seriously?!?! All the good shows are being cancelled. This is my all time favorite show, this is very dissapointing 🙁
I am sooooo bummed out about this show being cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this show and really related to it being one of four children. It seems like every show you start to watch is cancelled so easily and you never get closure for all thsese characters you have watched over the seasons. I don’t even want to start any new show knowing it will just be cancelled in the near future!!!
