Starz has decided to cancel their Camelot TV series after one season. While the ratings weren’t bad for the Arthurian show, the numbers aren’t necessarily the whole reason why there won’t be a second season.
Camelot, as you might have guessed, is based on the legend of King Arthur. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower as a young King Arthur, with Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
The premiere attracted 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marked the cable channel’s most-watched and highest-rated original series premiere to date. Unfortunately, the second installment dropped 24% in total viewership and subsequent episodes dropped even further. Still, by the end of the season, the ratings were on an upswing. The finale nearly matching the viewership of the premiere.
While Camelot may have ordinarily ended up getting a renewal from Starz, the ratings weren’t the only factor in play.
A statement from a Starz representative notes, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.” Deadline reports that some of those “challenges” included scheduling conflicts with some of the actors.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Camelot has been cancelled? Would you have liked to have seen a second season?

OK, so everyone who loved this series is leaving bread crumbs for Starz. Ya got it yet? It should lead you back for a second season. If you have to replace certain actors that can’t get their “scheduling” together, then so be it. This remake of a classic was so very poignant that it seems to have made an effect that has spanned over two years now. So….Starz, time to get it together. It’s your WRITERS that are making your series for you. I agree that Joseph Fiennes would be very hard to replace, but other than that one great… Read more »
Just saw 300 with Eva Green, she is so hott! Can’t believe you let her get away. starz is blowing it big time!!
Its a unfortunate way to treat your audience. I think most actors would be happy to have a following. I enjoyed it, but I didnt enjoy being left hanging.
Boss, Spartacus and now this. I even hear there will possibly be no more of the Borgia family. Yet they renew dumb shows like shameless and girls. What a waste.
Main character of the show was terribly suited for his role, as were the shows mechanics as a whole.
I am so dissapointed and upset! I can’t believe that Starz will cancel such a series. I haven’t seen an excellent series like Camelot for a long long time; I bought the DVD and watched it all in two weekends…Please, make all the efforts necessary to have it back; you cannot leave all your viewers hanging with an end like that.
Bought season 1 all I have to say is “****” and the ending of season 1 left me breathless but now that just leads me back to “****”
You have to do another season. The actors are great, the storyline is great, I just absolutely love the series….please for us, work something out
So upset! I loved Camelot. Please figure something out. The show must go on. How could you leave this many people hanging. So unprofessional! This by far would have been the best series I had ever watched. Not now. Pissed would best explain my feeling about it all. Fix this mess for your viewers if you want to keep them!
As someone who loves all things Camelot – I can’t believe this series was cancelled. It was gritty and sexy and great for adults. I have watched The Adventures of Merlin and the current episodes of Once Upon a Time three times and love them, but they are family oriented, while Camelot was a series that could be watched by adults (like The Tudors) and enjoyed during the later evening hours. The other series it was up against, are no longer a threat. Those of us who know the story, know there’s a beginning and an end to this series… Read more »
So Disappointed & angry. Just bought season1, wouldn;t have if known Starz would bail out on it’s supporters. Will NOT SUBSCRIBE to Starz ever now! You could make a movie or something. Too bad – for you as well. Word of mouth can go a long ways for Starz’s defections,
Just bought first season. just found out there’s no part 2 that stinks stars leaves it open and doesn’t finish something. i don’t have cable due to I’m a trucker and i buy DVD to watch when on the road. it was a good show. want to see more. bring it back. thats another good reason i don’t pay for cable all good shows with a story gets cancelled. stars don’t start something and don’t finish it. if us truckers did that now one would have a thing cause it wouldn’t be in stores. Head people at stars yall suck… Read more »
I’m majorly disappointed in stars. This is the best show about king Arthur i have ever seen
I second that. Why start a series if they were not planing to complete the flip-pen thing? Get new actors. Actors that can see something through?
I am so disappointed to hear there will not be a Season 2! Perhaps Straz failed to realize the show would be so huge on other social medias. You can’t leave us hanging….actors are brilliant! Now what am I going to watch? If you won’t make Season 2 than at least do a made for TV movie and thwart our suspense!
Just bought series 1 and now found out there will be no follow-up. Get new actors if there is conflict and bring back the series.
