The CW continues to garner the lowest ratings of all of the five major networks — and they only program five nights a week. Most of their shows would have been cancelled on other networks. This season, they had some successes and some misses.
Here’s a listing of CW TV shows with their current status. This list encompasses shows that have aired from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.
We’ll keep updating the list throughout the May upfronts when decisions are made about most of the shows’ fates. Keep checking back, especially if your favorite is still on the fence.
Renewed
90210: Students returning for year three. Will anyone graduate?
America’s Next Top Model: The competition will return for rounds 15 and 16.
Gossip Girl: Coming back next season for year four.
Life Unexpected: Has survived to see a sophomore year.
One Tree Hill: Coming back for season eight.
Smallville: Clark Kent to soar for season 10.
Supernatural: The boys will be back for season six.
The Vampire Diaries: The hot vamps will be back for season two.
Cancelled (or ending)
The Beautiful Life: Dumped after just a couple episodes.
Blonde Charity Mafia: The network killed it before it even aired.
Fly Girls: Grounded after one season and eight episodes.
High Society: Not coming back for a second round.
Hitched or Ditched: No more orchestrated weddings.
Melrose Place: The spin-off is gone after one season.
What do you think? Any news that makes you particularly happy or sad? When compared to other networks, is The CW better or worse about cancelling shows?
Here are updated listings for all five networks: ABC | CBS | The CW | FOX | NBC

i can’t wait until the fall!
I am so glad that they kept Vampire Diares and Smallville. If they would have cancled them, everyone i know would have protested until they came back. and besides, who cancles a show with a cliff hanger?
I am so glad that mostly all my shows are back, YAY for another seson of Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Gossip Girl. Though I really hope the latter, gets better then it has been being lately. I wish that Melrose Place would have been renewed. I really liked the show…grrrr. It left us with a lot of un-answered questions, grrr. Oh well, i liked it, but just mostly something to kill time.
I really think SUPERNATURAL shouldn’t be cancelled. It’s been one of the best shows ever…I really think the world needs more of the Winchester bros.
I heared it will not be back next year unfortunatly, I mean after the sixth season. It will be its last. It is going to end with its dignity though…becase there is not much more they can do. Not saying I want it to end, or it is for sure, it is what I heared though..
Thank god Life Unexpected wasn’t cancelled. It’s a glorious show with a lot of heart & grit, something unfortunately most tv viewers lack. I really hope it does better in ratings next season so it won’t be on the chopping block.
Excited of course for Vampire Diaries, and Gossip Girl (my eye candy shows)! Lol!
Dang still no work on Legend of the Seeker. If it wasn’t for 39-2 I could just delete 39 from my channel list if Seeker goes.
Im glad all my favorites are back. Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, & Smallville. YAY Can’t wait for what happens to the brothers in Supernatural. And what will happen with Alena and Stephen. And when will clark fly?
I really hopeya don’t go THAT far, Prosgirl! After all, you lived BEFORE ” Smallville” was made.
I believe they’re gonna conclude the series in its next season; after all Clark Kent/Supes grows up.
But again, if the CW stays on its present course, it’s soon gonna tank.
I WAS GONNA DIE IF THEY CANCELLED SMALLVILLE. I’VE BEEN WATCHING THIS SERIES SINCE DAY ONE AND THEY JUST COULDN’T END IT LIKE. I’M SO LOOKING FORWARD TO VAMPIRE DIARIES TOO. I’VE BEEN READING THE SERIES AND LOVE IT. SO LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT HAPPENS WITH ELENA AND DAMON.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO ON THE SHOWS
Long as Dawn Ostroff is running the show, expect more of the same.
I often wonder if Les Moonves wants the CW to tank. They have left Ostroff & her obsession with programming only for the young female demo there far too long. IMO they shoulda sent her packing (perhaps backta the Lifetime Channel) long ago.
I can not believe that they are bringing back Life Unexpected. That show sucks, even by CW standards, which aren’t very high! All their shows are the same overwrought teenie bopper dramas.
One Tree Hill was over when Lucas and Peyton left.
I am very happy that Smallville, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, and Life Unexpected will be back.
Simple fact is, there’s too much competition in TV-Land for the young female demo. Besides the big nets’ offerings, there’s a host of local programs throughout the land, and no one net is gonna capture a mejority of that demo. The CW is making a big mistake in tryint to do so, and if Dawn Ostroff continues as the person who decides what progs to air, that netlet is doomed. CBS is NOT gonna continue to throw good money after bad.
I’m glad Life Unexpected is back. It was my feel good show of the week and I actually really enjoyed this season of Smallville. The finale was excellent and I’m looking forward to season 10! 🙂
