Syfy has decided to cancel Caprica, the ratings-challenged spin-off of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica (BSG), but the show’s universe isn’t necessarily going away.
In a statement from the cable channel, Mark Stern, EVP of Original Programming, said, “We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”
Caprica will be pulled from the schedule following the November 2nd episode. According to the statement, “The final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.”
This news comes on the heels of the channel’s announced plans for another BSG prequel called Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. It had previously been described as an online prequel that could possibly serve as a backdoor pilot for a regular series. BSG executive producer David Eick is on board while Ron Moore is not.
Blood & Chrome will have more action and combat sequences, more closely reflecting the reimagined Galactica series. The description reads, “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20’s and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet — the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.”
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Caprica be cancelled? Are you excited to see another BSG prequel series?

Unbelievable. After all the b-movie scifi made-for-tv schlock that SYFY has been foisting on us, they finally come up with a great show – then promptly cancel it after one season. You can’t judge the quality of a show after just one truncated season. If SYFY would grow a pair, they’d realize that.
I like the show Caprica. I was hoping for a continuation of the series. Hail to those
who wrote the story line.

Any cable channel that claims to be science fiction and fantasy themed that prefers and promotes WRESTLING should die off; period.
Poor writing – soap opera and political correctness themes coupled with crappy slow-paced editing evidently kills faster than the equally slow-paced zombie fare on another channel.
Loved the show Wish it would continue
First off let me say that Caprica was not given a fair chance to shine. It is one of the best shows to come along in a long time. I understand the ratings tell you who’s watching and who’s not, but let me explain something to you, if I can’t watch it in person because of work I record it to watch later. When I heard that Caprica is cancelled, I thought that SYFY is just like FOX, they cancel great shows and leave audiances wanting more but no satisfaction. Fox has only a few great shows, But SYFY has… Read more »
I agree with you whole heartedly! Syfy never let us know when they were going to consistently air the episodes! I finally gave up on regular cable and searched the net until I found it! Missed the last 3 episodes of season 1 because of their ineptitude! If you want to see ratings, you need to air the show the same time every week! Only found out Syfy aired 1.5 today and watched them online after the fact. Syfy you will never make any money on your shows if you don’t get your act together! It wasn’t that Caprica didn’t… Read more »

Caprica is an amazing Series that I looked forward to every week … Cannot believe that
SYFY has cancelled this incredible show !!!! I think the producers of CAPRICA should
take this Series to ABC, NBC, FOX, TNT, FX, whatever show will take it and be sure that
I will be watching the Series.
I loved it, please bring it back !!!!!!!
SyFy knows how to suck it up worse than Sci-Fi did previously… hope they cap this Caprica off without a cliffhanger just to piss the fans off more. What do these morons go by the old-fashioned Nielson ratings or maybe they just suck at producing and promoting good shows… whatever… movin on to a different channel I guess…
if this is true, syfy, you suck
BRING BACK CAPRICA-FRIDAY NIGHTS AT 9PM BEST SCI-FI SINCE STAR TREK
i lovedped eve. ta this show. Best sci-fi since star trek. it was on the wrong night. Put it on Friday night ratings will change, I hope another net work picks it up
Caprica is a great show. It’s too bad most people don’t appreciate a good storyline that doesn’t involve non-stop shooting 🙁 Not that I don’t like non-stop shooting. I love it. I’m looking forward to the new series. After all, the 2005 BSG series was my favorite science fiction series of all time (aside from maybe star trek next gen).
Bring on Blood and Chrome
I loved this show. I am really going to miss it.
Don’t it just suck! Get us going and then drop us like dead fish… thanks for nada syfy!
