The CBS schedule typically looks about the same year after year. That’s all changed for the 2023-24 television season because of the writers and actors strikes. None of the network’s usual scripted shows are on the fall schedule. How will this alternate programming perform in the ratings for the 2023-24 season? Will CBS decide to focus more on reality shows moving forward? Stay tuned!
CBS shows this season (so far): 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, Big Brother Reindeer Games, Blue Bloods, Buddy Games, CSI: Vegas, Elsbeth, The Equalizer, FBI, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: True, Fire Country, Ghosts, Ghosts UK, Lingo, Lotería Loca, NCIS: Sydney, Raid the Cage, The Real CSI: Miami, SEAL Team, So Help Me Todd, Survivor, SWAT, Tracker, and Young Sheldon.
There’s lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. These 2023-24 season charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view them here and here.
Some notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Older viewers also matter but younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are therefore harder to reach. Delayed viewing matters more and more these days (if commercials are watched) but live viewing is still advertisers’ ideal.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which 2023-24 shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
All networks listed on this site appear to show a massive plummet in year-to-year viewership. Is this common? Is anyone concerned?
Dateline
u all cancelled all the good shows i think if u all pev. them maybe they would of got the ratings they needed its not one show its 6 shows that got cancelled i was loving not know more thanks to u all. Is if anyone stays paying on CBS i hate it know and thanking about cancelling CBS.
CBS had better prepare for Elsbeth to crash next season. The Kings are loved but even critics call the show annoying. It’s quirky, perfect for streaming.
Keeping NCIS: Hawaii might be a smart midseason replacement. Also, Sydney may be cheap to film but brings in lower ratings. It’s not going to get any better.
CBS is smart to keep SWAT. It does great on Netflix and gas great demos for a Friday show trying FBI:Most Wanted. SWAT is a late bloomer that already took budget cuts so is a cash cow. It could be a solid Elsbeth time slot replacement.
Something wrong with the link to So Help Me Todd
Thanks
Both sets of tables on here are sorted by viewership instead of one being sorted by demo.
Thanks
Where After Midnight show?
I love NCIS Los Angeles. Please bring it back!
Yellowstone’s ratings aren’t gonna be logged here? Technically it’s considered a new broadcast original and The CW’s Chosen is being logged.
We already have ratings for Yellowstone, from when it aired on Paramount Network and got big numbers. Chosen has only been available via an app in the US and the small BYUtv channel so we don’t have any earlier ratings for that one.
This looks barren. I wonder this will help the guild’s cause to get networks and studies sign a agreement.
