Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Very sorry to find out Cedar Cove has been canceled. I am curious. Does DVRing a show count in the ratings of a show? I frequently record & I never missed an episode of this series. If DVR doesn’t show in ratings, maybe that is why ratings went down.
I loved this show! I watched it on Netflix, and I am waiting for season 3 to show up! I am shocked that it was cancelled. It was my all time favorite show! I watched the reruns over and over! I have visited the website to keep up with it al.
I think it is horrible that you cancelled the show!!!! There are those of us who really enjoyed it!!!
Tie up all the loose ends. What a sad day today when we found out that Cedar Cove was cancelled. I can’t imagine the replacement show will be as good.
Please Bring back Cedar Cove….Can’t just end like that…Loved this series.
Disappointing.
I am so disappointed in HallMark to stop one of the best series ever. It is a shame and I feel they are letting us down. I looked forward to the series each week and really enjoyed a nice clean series. I might just find another channel to watch
I just saw were Hallmark cancelled Cedar Cove – big mistake! You left the viewers hanging but what the viewers think apparently Hallmark doesn’t care. Its all bout the money!!!
Irresponsiblr to stop mid story. What hsppens to storyline . Would like closure for characters
Please finish the series. My husband liked watching it as well. I think all the jumping around of TV schedules leaves us guessing when shows are coming back if at all so we seem to miss some before we realize it’s back on. Loved the location as well!
I enjoyed all three years of Cedar Cove and am disappointed it is canceled. It was an enjoyable hour of TV. From what I can see, what Hallmark is going to show now isn’t worth watching
I find it hard to believe that the series “When Calls The Heart” had more viewers than Cedar Cove did. Who really cares about 19th Century Canada and what took place for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police? I watched two episodes and found it to be boring as hell, even with the few quality actors it has. If Hallmark needed to make cuts, the first that should have been cut is the Home and Family morning show, It appears to be Hallmarks TV version of The Bob and Tom AM radio show. Bring back Cedar Cove and finish season four.
I’d like to see closure to the characters and stories. I read the entire series and enjoyed all the stories. Maybe there could be a TV movie with stories for each of the characters.
Yes!!!! I totally agree with at least finishing what you started in all of our hearts. Cedar Cove was a very endearing show with a cast of great actors and will be surely missed by all of her fans. I hope Hallmark decides that Cedar Cove deserves another season just to give us all some closure! Thanks!
Hallmark needed to finish season 4. Why bother starting series if they are going to stop them mid-stream and not finish them. It makes me very leery to invest my time to get involved watching series that have no ending. Not good Hallmark.
