Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Signed, Sealed, Delivered, too! Aarrrggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sing, sealed and delivered has been moved to the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel and instead of one hour episodes in a series, there are two hour movies. New one is on tonight!
I cannot believe you canceled Cedar Cove! Every time you have a great show going, you cancel it! I’m so disappointed in the Hallmark Channel…please consider bringing it back. TV needs a show featuring a small beautiful home town. And just what is wrong with 1.2 million viewers? Why don’t you advertise more?
Just realized Cedar Cove was cancelled as I was checking for an upcoming start date. So disappointed! Originally, I missed the first season, but caught up and loved the show and the cast. Would love to see an “end” movie as I feel we have been left hanging. Please consider and thank you, Sandy Nolan
I just learned that my favorite TV show has been cancelled! I am so disappointed! I’ve been purchasing the DVDs only to be left hanging. At the very least do a season to conclude the stories. I looked forward to each season. It was such a feel good show with fun characters, beautiful to the eye, wholesome subject matter. People showing kindness, love, helping each other through the hard things of life and with lessons learned; no offensive language or themes. I loved viewing the landscape. I loved the romance. It was a most delightful retreat. Please reconsider this decision.… Read more »
Very disappointed that this great, wholesome and warm show was cancelled. The powers that be, should reach out to the fans, before cancelling a great show. Shame on you.
Very disappointed. I wish they had followed the stories better, but really liked watching the show. there was so much material and different stories they could have kept going for a long time with new characters from the books. Bummer. I have enjoyed hallmark series, maybe they will rethink the decision.
I loved the books, and loved seeing them brought to life by Hallmark. Over a million and a half viewers on Saturday night sounds good to me, especially with so many other channels available to watch. We need more good, clean, family -oriented shows like this. I see they are moving all the other series from Saturday night to Sunday night, which will more than likely end up getting them canceled, also, and that is a real shame.
It’s sad that I won’t be able to watch another of my favorite series The Good Witch as it will air at 9:00 on Sunday’s as the next day is an early day. And that too will most likely be cancelled.
I am so disappointed that Cedar Cove was cancelled. Maybe they could consider two hour movies like they are doing with Signed Sealed and Delivered.
This is so disappointing, but typical. Just when I find something that is good and wholesome to watch it gets taken away.I guess ratings are all that matters and we have so many people in this country that want to see programs with drugs, violence and sex.I guess I will just have to start reading books again Hallmark!
One of the best television shows ever. The storyline, acting and scenery were incredible. I cannot believe it was cancelled. Maybe if Hallmark would put it on at a decent time for all areas it would have been done better.
I love the show! I have been waiting for the next season to start..
I purchased this video for my homebound Veteran mother in another state who’s on oc to get this series of Cedar Cove I went out and bought the second season just because of her and she’s 82 if it wasn’t for the Cedar Cove series for my veteran mother I wouldn’t know what to say except that it really made her very piece of ball and calm and relaxing and she knew the characters and she couldn’t wait to see the next show and the next show and I had to stop and break them up so she something for… Read more »
So disappointed! One of my favorite shows.
Cedar Cove was a fantastic series. I can’t believe that hallmark has cancelled it. They should at LEAST make a movie to answer the questions left at end of last season! I want to know who Olivia chooses!!!
Really dissappointed this was canceled. It was your best. This seems to be a pattern lately. Great shows, canceled….
