Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I am extremely disappointed that Cedar Cove was cancelled. There were so many unanswered questions at the end of last season. It would be fantastic to do a final season
So disappointed-it was a great show!
I really really liked the show and would love to have it renewed!!!
I think if Hallmark is going to cancel the series they need at least do one more show the tie up loose ends and unanswered questions from the last show of season 3. I hate when networks cancel TV shows and leave you hanging from the last season.
Please have a Cedar Cove movie once a year to keep us posted.
Just checked to see when the new season of Cedar Cove was starting, since I haven’t seen any advertisements. It’s sad Hallmark felt the need to cancel such a great series. I looked forward to seeing who Olivia chose. Please reconsider!! Love watching Hallmark on the weekends. (Sorry but all the repeats during the week are old) Cedar Cove was refreshing and comforting after a hectic week.
I am very sad that Cedar Cove has been canceled!! It was a wholesome and good show that truly entertained without ugliness! It also had beautiful scenery for the eyes, and for the mind to visit and wish to see in person one day! I will miss it and all of the characters greatly!! It’s a loss.
I really liked the show and was looking forward to it coming back. The last season, however, got a little too “sopa-opera-ish”. Too bad it was cancelled.
I must say I enjoyed the books so much more than the series but it was entertaining and I did watch it to see the new twists that they added. Sorry to see it go and keep on making Debbie Macomber’s books into movies. We love her here in the Northwest!
I just found out Cedar Cove was canceled and I am upset and surprised. I loved the show because it was a break from all the other shows with sex, cheating, lying and drugs. I’m sick of reality shows. Cedar Cove was a refreshing break from reality and always had a wholesome feel to it. I’m not sure why all of the good shows get canceled while all those ridiculous reality shows stay on.
I thought hallmark was above this…….cancelling a program like cedar cove without resolution . I don’t want to watch and get involved with another series just to be left hanging so goodbye hallmark
What a disappointment. Hundreds of channels and it is rare to find something worth watching. Perhaps canceling my cable is the only way to avoid the pain, because it is a guarantee that the good will get the cancelled and garbage will be on forever.
So very disappointed – been waiting for the next season- such a good show – feel hallmark made a very bad decision – was one of my favorite!!!!
Wow. So disappointed this was a great show
Good show. No sex or violence, just good stories, one of my favorites. Bring it back.
